Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

What other yrear transmissions will fit in the 95 grand cherokee with the 6cyl besides 95?

I need a used trans for my 95 grand cherokee, I was told that that trans for the 1995 is specific for that year. Will any other years transmissions work in the 95?

My trans needs to be replaced, the vehicle is not worth the quotes I have been given for a rebuilt trans, I want a used trans, it is the I6 4x4 auto(42re). First I was told any GC trans will work in it, then later was told only 95 will work. Will any other years work for what I want to do?

Is the overdrive solenoid on a 95 JGC accessible, externally?

no. its part of the valve body inside of the transmission. you would need to drain and remove the transmission oil pan and then remove the valve body. Best left to a transmission shop or reputable repair center.

I was told that there may be a felt spacer on transmission

The Flywheel needs to match the engine. The sensor ring gives the proper signal for the spacific engine computer controls. Was this a used transmission? and what was it out of? is this 4WD? and what year? Does the trans have all the same connctors? If the torque converter doesn't match then it is possibly for different engine or year. The flwheel sensor ring did change on different years.
You need torque converter to match.

Transmission fluid leak

Transmissions can leak anywhere there is a seal, fitting or gasket. Most common leaks are at the trans pan gasket and fittings.. However, to find a leak the only way is to get under there and look. A mid sized leak will clean off road debris and leave a track. Keep in mind that all leaks run down and that while driving this can be blown towards the rear of the vehicle. If you find a suspicious area, clean it off with a rag & some solvent and run vehicle...watch that area for seepage. Also check cooling lines to radiator. Fluid coming from inside bellhousing indicates a bad front seal (requires trans removal to repair) Fluid should be (for aw4 units) Mercon, or any quality synthetic that covers mercon application.
