It's located in the intake manifold under the throttle body, Follow the radiator hose from the drivers side to the engine. The hose is then connected to the thermostat housing which goes under the throttle body and behind the exhaust pipe.
if you have small hands and the right tools you can get it out with out disconnecting the exhaust pipe or throttle body.
Good luck and i feel the pain. Keep me posted.

Need to replace thermostat . overheating radiator is full. could you provide a diagram of thermostat location?

Follow the upper radiator hose off the radiator to the engine, where the house mounts on the engine is where the thermostat is located, two bolts should hold it on, front top side of the engine on the intake manifold.

Where to find the thermostat for a 1990 ford mercury sable. not sure if that is the problem, but car is overheating. thanks.

this is a good place to start for an overheating problem, follow the top radiator hose to the engine, at the end of this hose is the waterneck, the thermostat is located in this housing, usually secured to the intake manifold with two bolts, remove the bolts an gently pry the waterneck off, there you will find the thermostat, note which way it is installed,(should be spring side down) set the new thermostat in place, be sure to use a new waterneck gasket during reinstallation

hi, i dont know about the dipstick, but your overheating problem is most likely to be the thermostat...sounds like its stuck in the closed position, not allowing colder water to circulate, hence the overheating.......needs changing

Keep overheating

check the fan, the engine cooler, or the antifreeze, thats the same problem I had with my 1998 Mazda Millenia, the antifreeze pump was not working and my car was literaly smoking hot.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1996 Lincoln Town Car?

The thermostat is in the housing bolted to the intake that the upper radiator hose goes to. Check the Intake manifold for leaks, these are prone to cracking the Intake. Check the front crossover behind the alternator and check the rear where the heater hose is hooked.
