Cannot find a replacement fuel filter with clips. The plastic clips are brittle and it is a split year. I have the style that no one knows where to get the special clips to fit it.

Where is the fuel filter located in a 1993 jeep cherokee grand

most of the jeeps like that have an inline filter. its just ahead of the fuel tank. attached to the rear floorboard by a bracket and in most cases , a clamp. the lines attach with plastic, reuseable clips. be careful of high pressure fuel and the spillage. pinch the clips. slide lines carefully off. those older plastic lines can be brittle. careful not to kink them!!!

How to replace petroleum filter

There are plastic clips inside each fuel line holding the filter in place. You'll need a special tool to unlock the clips. The tool is available at most auto parts stores.

What tools do you need to change a inline fuel filter

It depends on how your truck is equipped. Ford trucks use Two different styles of connectors. Although both styles will connect to the same filter, one is held together by plastic clips and the other is held by spring locks.

If yours has the plastic clips, you simply need a small screwdriver to remove the clips from the connector. They will usually break when you try to remove them. Not to worry, because the new fuel filter should come with new clips in the box (you are supposed to replace them anyway).

If your vehicle is equipped with the spring locks, then you will need a fuel line disconnect tool (available at ANY retail auto parts store) to release the connectors from the fuel filter. In this case, you do not need the clips that come in the box, you can simply discard them.

The fuel line tools come in different variations from metal to plastic to the ones that can fit several size fuel ad A/C hose to those that are only good for one size hose. The one that I have found to work on Ford products the best for me is made by OEM Specialty Tools. I use it at least once a week and it is a very well constructed tool (MUCH better than the plastic ones). It is available at AutoZone for $7.99. I have included a picture of it below.

How do i replace my fuel filter?

The fuel filter is mounted on the frame rail. There are two types of fittings used. You only need to look at the fittings to tell the difference.

There is the plastic "hair pin" type of connector. It has a plastic connector with a plastic "hairpin" clip that pushes through the connector. Just pry the clip out with a screwdriver don't worry about breaking the clip, the new filter should come with new clips. Be careful not to break the fitting though. If you break the connector, you must replace the fuel line...not fun.

The other type is what Ford calls the "Duckbill" type of connector. I don't know wht it is called that...it doesn't look like a duck bill to me. Anyway., you can identify this one as a stainless steel connector. there is usually also a stainless steel lock clip that goes over the outside of this type of connector. The lock clip can be pried up and removed with a screwdriver. Once the lock clip is removed, a special fuel line disconnect tool must be used to releasethe spring clips inside the connector. the tool canbe purchased for a couple dollars at any parts store where you would buy your fuel filter.

You need to look at the car to determine if you need the tool or not. Both types of connectors are used for the same fuel filter. Plastic connectors - no special tool needed. Stainless steel connectors - special tool required.

1992 Ford Ranger fuel filter replacement. Where is the fuel filter located?

Inside the frame rail on the driver's side. You'll need a 5/16" (8mm) socket if it is the type that is held in with a hose clamp, or a 10mm if it is the bracket type. Some of the lines are held in with white plastic clips, others by special springs. If it is the type without clips, you'll need a special tool to release them. Also, if it is the type without the plastic clips, make sure they gave you the right filter. If the new filter is shorter than the old DO NOT PUT IT ON. If you do, you will have to cut it off next time you have to change it as the tool will not fit in. The two filters look the same except the tubes are longer on the non-clip filter.

Are any special tools needed to change the fuel filter on a 2001 Taurus. The dealer wants $80 to change this filter and I can buy one for $20 at the parts store.

You will need to jack up the RR corner of the vehicle to reach it. The fuel filter is fastened with a big clamp to the right side frame rail, close to the fuel tank, just ahead of the RR wheel.

Use a small flat screwdriver to remove the two plastic clips from the lines attached to the filter. Be careful, the lines are under pressure, and there will be fuel that will spray out as you unplug the lines from the filter.
Use a flat screwdriver to loosen the clamp from the body of the filter and then you can remove and replace the filter.
Install the new plastic line clips that are in the box with the filter into the lines and then plug the lines onto the filter until you hear them click in place.

Need to change fuel filter on 98' Mercury mountaineer all wheel drive, but do not know how on this kind.Engine size is 5.0

The fuel filter will be located under the driver side door tucked inside the frame rail. The filter should have 2 or 3 plastic clips you can pinch the end of the clips together and pull the clips right out.

I suggest replacing the clips because they get brittle and break easy. after you remove the clips you pull the fuel lines off. there will be pressure on these lines you can release the pressure by pushing the fuel valve stem located on your fuel injection rails underneath the hood either way you will have gas all over so dont do it while your engine is hot or near any flames, sparks or anything that will ignite the gas. (If you do not release the pressure be careful not to get gas in your eyes as it will spray for a secound or two).
After you remove the lines there may be a bolt on the outside of the frame rail you have to remove to remove the filter if not it will have a clamp around it and you just loosen it and slide it out. However on some models like mine there are not any plastic clips there are metal ones on the outside that clip onto the filter and the fuel line.

With ones like this there are metal retaining clips on the inside of the line as well it will take alot of force to pull them off and you will notice how there are two or three little metal pieces sticking out of the line, with a small screwdriver try to bend them back in if you cannot you will have to buy new ones from a autoparts store (orliley autoparts or advanced auto parts have them, the dorman part number is 800-017), they are called retaining clips, without them the lines will leak like crazy and you will not be able to drive, if you give up the new lines are available at the dealer for about 100 apiece and are about 6 hours of dealer labor to put in, so be carefull

Location of the fuel filter in a 1999 Lincoln Towncar

You DO NOT need to remove the fuel tank to replace this filter.

My 1999 Signature Series Town Car did not require the special tool. It has two push out clips which hold the fuel lines in place. New clips came in the box with the filter. The clips are off-white in color and look like skinny versions of the plastic safety plugs moms use to keep toddlers from sticking objects into electrical outlets in your home.

The fuel filter is located just below the rear passenger side door - along the outside rail of the frame. It May or MAY NOT require the special tool.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN.

Be sure to depressurize the system by turning the off fuel pump - either by unplugging the cord in the left side of the trunk next to the hinge mount or removing the fuse (#14 20 amp in the fuse box under the hood).

It's a good idea to take a picture of the assembly before starting to refer to when you reassemble it.

Spread some shop towels or rags on the ground to catch any fuel which runs out of the filter when you remove it.

There is a hose clamp holding the filter in its housing - loosen with a screwdriver.

Pop out the two clips then pull the fuel lines out of the filter at each end.

Wiggle the filter out of its mounting bracket, then install the new filter and reinsert the fuel lines into it.

Be sure the clips are inserted correctly to avoid leaks. TIghten the hose clamp.

Replacement took about four minutes and required only a flat-blade screwdriver. Clips pop out and back in with only finger pressure.
