Question about 1987 Oldsmobile Ciera

1 Answer

With A/C on full, fast idle at about 1500-2000 rpm.

At traffic lights it is hard to keep from inching forward as idle is so fast. Had a bad wire from FI sensor to computer that the local mechanic said they fixed.

I have a new 2015 Ford 150 Lariat. I have noticed that when it idles for a while, at a traffic light or in stalled traffic, it feels like the engine stops.

You need the computer controlled idle speed control system run through an active test procedure, and yes unfortunately this requires a trip to the dealer in most cases as very few shops have the right scanner, but check around..

Your car has a bad ground or electrical connection. With electricity especially in cars and more so the older they get. Start at battery and work your way to the end of all ground wires first. Many times i have seen the battery terminals cleaned at battery to terminal connection but the wire to terminal connection are worn or.dirty.look at all.ground from engine to body they often corrode or melt as they are braided aluminum. If all else fails your low idle speed is a vacuum leak listen for a hiss when engine is.running or if u.can seal.the air intake and exhaust pipe.and use compressor to pump air into engine through a vacuum line on intake.manifold keep it.under

id go for chicken feet and blood and voodoo , sessions.....loL

first off, i see an illegal fast idle ,
and all A/T trannys do that, when the engine rpm fraks up.
to move car, due to the stall speed rules of the clutch torque converter (aka ,the fluid clutch) wiki clutch stall speed.

that A/T weakness, is why folks run over kids. (the lame excuse)
starting a car with foot off the brake is , folly, thus the lock all outs called park lock features.

i can not follow your sequence of events.so will ask questions.
1: I start the engine, its don't want to but does. (ever tune it up?)

2: Does the CHECK engine lamp go out (CEL/SES)? running.
for sure, if the engines stalls many lights will glow in the cluster but that is normal, see? for any stall.!
The Charge light comes on anytime the Alternator goes dead
or hits near 0 RPM (stalled)
so are you saying at 3000 rpm, the charge lamp came on.
/??????
battery lamp is not battery, its really a Charge lamp.
the op guide states that too.
on my car I have a battery gauge too, and shows VOLTS.
at idle its 14v. its 14v at all rpm. if less, say so.
I have 2004. GV. with full manuals. even factory FSM. ++++++

ok , in drive, no acceleration, are you saying ,
1: im in A/T drive.
2: the engine is idling at 800 RPM hot or near 1500 cold
3000 is wrong, dead wrong, you in ALASKA, state location(gen)

i increase the RPM with my right foot and the car don't move
in DRIVE
as RPM rises above 1500 RPM, you do have a tacho , i see that.
if it does not move with hgher RPMs, the trans is bad or its TCM is bad.
on your car the TCM is hidden deep inside the PCM. back in 1997.

the PCM runs the engine and tranny today.
if something lies to the TCM/PCM the tranny will not go into drive.
on newer 96+ cars, you see the check engine lamp glow.
running (not stalled, stalling this CEL glows all the time)
but running, the CEL glowing means Faults found, scan me,. please.
eg:
so you scan it, and find DTC's stored (many?) eg.... in english...
the transmission selector switch is bad. or worse.
not using a scan tool ,means ($7 cost) means you miss all the facts. hard cold real facts.
the ECU can not shift any car with a bad selector switch.
so throws the DTC error.
it can be even be a loose selector cable, cave man simple.

recap.
does the CEL lamp stay out running at all times.
no, ? then scan it.
do not post car problems with stored, or pending DTCs on any car newer than 1995. or its just wild guessing.. mostly.

Idling is too slow at 500 rpm.......think about at least 650 rpm to charge the battery and keep up inertia for better take-off power.
Find out how to increase rpm,whether it's a screw-stop adjustment or a timing problem. don-ohio (:^)

It could be a combination of 2 things. A faulty MAP sensor itself or a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). It's not uncommon for a bad TPS to idle when the motor is cold but once warm, not idle fast enough to keep the vehicle running.

Ok i start my 95 toyota 4runner up it will idle but as soon as it hits certain temp it stalls out on me it has a full tune up plugs wires etc also put new fuel injectors in im baffled

Usually it is the EGR valve or the EGR solenoid. Does you car have fast idle? If your car has fast idle, for example idling at 1,000 rpm instead of 800 rpm, it may be a vacuum leak. Is your car stock? If those options do not help, let me know more details about the car and i will look more into the problem.

You do not state year or model. Many Chevrolets have electric idle control, and it could be out of adjustment. Also, a loose vacuum line could increase the idle by a significant amount. At 2000 rpm, when stopped, the engine really wants to drag the car forward, hence the extra effort to keep it stopped. Furthermore, dragging the vehicle forward continuosly will eventually damage the automatic transmission torque converter.

Does it gallop when you are sitting idle and the RMP gauge bounce up and down between 1000 and 1500? If so, clean the throttle body and see if that solves the problem. I had a similar problem with my 03 Yukon XL (same truck) and cleaning the throttle body fixed it.

you might want to have the Throttle position sensor checked. as they have been known to create this problem.
