You need to buy new air bags and a new computer for the air bags you will also need to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel, I do not suggest you do this without knowing anything about the air bag system as it can kill you. This one is for a professional, and the older cars have added items that need to be checked like accelerometers and crash sensors on the front of the radiator core support and on each fender, any one of these items could deploy the air bag if defective. and the old ones deploy at 180 miles per hour.

1990 Ford Mercury Sable airbag light won't stop flashing and gas gauge won't work how do I fix them is there fuses to check

The airbag has a fault and the airbag system is disabled (VERY BAD) The system must be checked for fault codes, but the most likely cause is the rotating contact coil under the steering has an open circuit to the steering wheel airbag. The system can severely injure you if not disarmed before the steering wheel is removed to replace the contact drum, so best left to an expert.
The gas gauge problem is almost for sure a fault in the fuel tank fuel level sensor float arm. That means you must remove the gas tank to replace the fuel pump module.

REPLACING CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH

1.
Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable from battery.

2. Remove airbag module (See AIRBAG REMOVAL below).

3. Remove speed control switch mounting screw and remove switch from steering wheel.

4. Reverse procedure to install.
AIRBAG REMOVAL
1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable from battery.

2. From the underside of the steering wheel, remove the two screws that secure the driver airbag to the steering wheel armature.
CAUTION: The horn switch and the clockspring pigtails connected to the back of the airbag module are fragile. Do not pull on these wires to disengage them. These must be handled carefully to prevent damage to the horn switch and/or the clockspring assembly.
3. Pull the driver airbag away from the steering wheel enough to access the three electrical connections on the back of the airbag housing.

4. Disconnect the steering wheel wire harness connector for the horn switch from the horn switch feed pigtail wire connector, which is located on the back of the driver airbag housing.

5. The clockspring driver airbag pigtail wire connectors are secured by integral latches to the airbag inflator connector receptacles, which are located on the back of the driver airbag housing. Depress the latches on each side of the connector insulator and pull the insulators straight out from the airbag inflator to disconnect them from the receptacles.

6. Remove the driver airbag from the steering wheel.

7. Reverse procedure to install.

On my 2004 Mercury Sable (20,XXX miles), the cruise control and horn have stopped working. I checked the fuses and they seem to be in working order, and I know the horn still works since when I lock my...

The clockspring (AKA Contact Assembly or spiral cable) under the steering wheel is most likely broken. The clockspring is what makes the connection between the horn button and cruise control buttons in your steering wheel and the main wiring harness. (you have to have a flexible circuit so you can turn your steering wheel around in circles) The cockspring assembly also contains the circuit for the driver's airbag. If your AIRBAG light on your dash is on, this is most likely why. The steering wheel must be remove to fix it. The airbag system has to be disarmed before any work should be done to the steering column.
AllData shows a dealer list price of $77.71 and a standard labor time required to replace the clock spring at 1.0 hours.

I have a 96 Mercury Sable and everytime it is started it beeps 5 times for 5 cycles. What is this for

if here is no airbag light on when you first turn on the key. then the beeping is coming from the airbag module. you will have to take cluster apart and replace airbag light bulb, that should stop the beeping.

How do i turn off airbag 2001 mercury sable

It is not able to be turned off on your vehicle. you would have to physically disconnect the air bag, then none would work. Children that young should not ride in the front seat anyway.
