Steam coming from the tailpipe of my car after replacing radiator

We just replaced the radiator in my 2000 Mercury Sable, now there is steam coming from the tailpipe. It is very strong when we start the car, it does slow up a bit when driving but it continues to steam. What could be the problem?

Are you loosing coolant? if you have some coolant going somewhere but no leaks that you can find pull the dipstick and take a look at your oil. if the oil on the dipstick looks white and creamy, you have a blown head gasket. that is how water is getting into parts of the engine where it doesn't belong and so into exhaust. if that is what is happening you should fix it right away, pretty bad for the engine. hope that helps

R/T. overheated. Why is white smoke coming from the tailpipe?

might be steam coming out tail pipe. If steam you may have a blown head gasket which could put water into the cylinder that gets turned into steam and put out tail pipe.
If compression is getting into cooling system via blown head gasket then pressure builds in cooling system. A radiator repair place may be able to pressure test via the radiator cap to see if this is occurring while the engine is running.
If you have an alloy head you may also have cracked the head
A warped head is another possible problem .
This is expensive to fix as the engine head has to be sent to a head repair place to be fixed.
A compression test on your cylinders may give a diagnosis on if there is a head gasket problem .
The warps or cracked head can only be found out when the mechanic checks the head after pulling the top of the engine apart.

Steam rises from the radiator after car idles for 10 minutes. Replaced thermostat. No improvement. Could this be one of the radiator fans as I noted it does not turn on. The water guage remains wh

If the steam is rising from the radiator and not from the overflow tank or hose then you do have a leak.. in the radiator. check for a cracked tank or fitting where the hoses connect. If it is making steam the guage is probably defective. Find out where that steam is coming from ! If the car is making steam the rad fan should probably be running.. I do not know about your particular car but some times the secon fan only comes on with A/C use or extream heat.

your thermostat is stuck in the closed position, replace it, anytime a hose blows off, this is usually the case, remember when replacing it that the spring part of it goes towards the motor

open the hood, run the car with a piece of card over the rad (if poss)until its really hot then, with your sleeves rolled up and NO tie, look for a steam jet,if its hot enough, you wont miss it.unless it the heater matrix.but you would smell that inside the car with steamed up windows.(no ac)

Antifreeze steam comeing through vents

Your heater core has a leak, it's like a small radiator that heats up and the blower motor blows air thru it to create heat in the car. It is leaking anti freeze into the heater box.

Steam coming from the tailpipe of my car after replacing radiator

Question? Does the coolant get low as you drive? If so you may have a head gasket problem, stop driving it. Check the oil to see if it's milky, if not replace the head gasket, if the oil is milky, replace the engine.
