Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Car only start for a second

Well i have a pontiac grand am 2.4 liter and when i start it it stays started for a split second and it sounds like theres alot of air coming from the motor and it shakes really bad its not the plugs ar fuel filter thanks

Sounds like you a major vacumm leak which would cause this problem. you can take a can of brake cleaner and spray differant places over itake area and if the idle picks up and smooths out you should be able to find the leak.

Recently my 99 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cylinder has been having starting problems. It turns over, will start for a split second then turn off. To start it fully, i have to press on the gas to get it to stay on....


CHeck fuel pressure pump, if you need keep press to stay ON, it possible that some rpoblem in the injection system or fuel pressure or clogged injector/filter.

Reset Change Oil Light


Hello - I have a 2003 Grand Am GT and to reset my "Change Oil" light, I turn the ignition key to the on position (without starting the car) and fully press the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. The "Change Oil" light will flash a few times then turn off.

replace your idle air control solenoid which is mounted on the throttle body .also check for vacuum leaks.

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 GTP. REPLACED THE PUMP AND FILTER STILL A PROBLEM. FINALLY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP RESISTOR LOCATED UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER, NO MORE PROBLEM.

Misffire 1 & 2 detected multiple cylinder


the coil pack it's self should be numbered Starting left to right across the front it is 2, 4, 6 and across the back left to right it is 1, 3, 5. Emissonwiz (only the OHV, pushrod V6 was avaliable in 99 unless you had the 4 cylinder)

clogged catalytic converter put your hand by the tail pipe there should be a noticable flow but it should not be overly hot
