run fault codes and look for problem in the ignition coil/s or ECM . This is a problem related to an overheating piece of electronic equipment like a coil, injector control , position sensor

Does it hurt anything driving the car when its reading code po411

Should not hurt anything, means the air injection system isn't working.
emission code,a pump adds air to the exhaust on cold start,no biggie
Most likely a vacuum hose ,check by the brake booster, listen for
a hissing sound.May have to pull the plastic engine cover to aid
your hunt for a broken hose.

I'm trying to find the engine code for my 2000 1.9 golf 4 tdi. I don't have the title or timing belt cover readily avaliable to me and was wondering if I could track it by chassis #. I know it's a 66 kw...

in the boot(trunk)you will find a 3"paper sticker on the floor under the carpet,on this is the engine code for your car.(and the paint code and the trim and the service code(sg3)which is variable....)

check for a vaccuum leak this is where i would start if it rolled into my shop. possibly a PCV valve sticking or a hole in the hose, this hose should run from the valve cover, or crank case and then to the intake, or carb.

TDI GOLF that has a hard start and white smoke

Sounds like the heater plugs, and as its quite cold it will take longer to heat up, have you tried giving it one heat light then turn the ignition off again, then do it again 3 times in total then try to fire it over if it starts quite easy then its your heater plugs. timing shouldnt be out, if it was then it would seem very lumpy even when turning over.

02 VW Jetta TDI with ALH engine glow plug

this is a common problem for these cars glow plugs go bad like spark plugs however the smoke would lead to bad mass airflow meter. it is not telling ecu corrcet miss. disconnect mass airflow meter. when cold see if this makes it start better. it should would means you need new m.a.f. glow plug issue take a test light place clamp on positive of battery then pull off glow plug connectors place tip of test light on glow plug the bad one will have a dull light unlike the good one which will be brighter. will need new plugs and wire harness four **** connectors and wire striper and crimper will fix concern good luck

2001 Jetta Tdi runs rough

Hi Whitneyford
Your priblem sounds more like the glow plug timer relay than the exhaust. White smoke after start up is a sign of diesel entering the exhaust before it has burned completly. This is as a result of the glow plugs switching off too early, which is usually caused by one or more faulty glow plugs or a faulty timer. With engine COLD, IGNITION ON... Check voltage with all 4 plugs connected. You should have a reading of 10--12 volts
If there is no power, check in-line fuse on loom coming to plugs.
If power is present, check for How Long. If only for a few seconds, the problem is with the timer. This unit (the larger of the relays and usually black in colour) is fitted on the fuse board, and there are a few different types. They come in 7 pin..8 pin..and even 9 pin units.
The glow plug light is often NOT accurate (even with a new timer unit fitted) as to the time of heating, and you will almost certainly find that power will flow to the plugs for quiet some time after the light goes out. This is not unusuall with The Jetta Tdi.
Good luck.
I hope this helps you sort out this problem
John

2001 Jetta 1.8T, 100K miles. Smokes when hot.

Ouch! you've got engine coolant in the exhaust from a leak somewhere...DO NOT run this engine until you get someone (dealer is best in this instance) to diagnose ($50-125)
