Why does a turbo 350 pause when you shift gears not slip shift shifter pause then change gears

    it shifts very hard in every gear but has a pause when you shift the shifter and it shifts

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE SOFT SHIFT IN YOUR UNIT, I SUGGEST YOU GET ONE MODIFIED BY SOMEONE LIKE FAIRBANKS, B&M OR OTHER PERFORMANCE TRANS BUILDER. THE REASON YOURS SHIFTS THAT WAY IS SO IT DOSEN'T SNAP YOUR NECK ON EVERY GEAR CHANGE.

    Just wrote a long reply to your question and it disappeared...bottom line is that the unit is old and likely out of original clearance (which wasn't that tight to begin with) even if rebuilt, it would only be a bit better unless "set up" for performance use.

I do not know much if anything about an arctic cat but if you have a shifter you have some kind of a transmission and if you need to get it into gear or neutral but cannot do so without rocking the machine or the shifter back and forth a slipping clutch would not likely have anything to do with the problem. You likely should not be trying to shift gears with the clutch engaged and the clutch normally should be FULLY slipping ie completely disengaged when you are shifting. It sounds like you could have sticking shifter linkage parts, worn shifter parts or internal transmission parts, bent shifter forks, worn shifter cam or drum grooves or shifter fork pins or other worn parts or maybe even low or no transmission fluid.

Transmission not shiftin



For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

My 400 turbo is in a classic car of mine. has a 350 chevy about 350 hp. 3200 stall.w/ quick shifter. reverse is starting to slip. what would you try first?


pressure test tranny and if ok check adjustments in tranny also check the band servo because I have known then to crack in the housing especially in units like yours as the ally is to thin to take the hit of sudden gear change. should show up in a pressure test

F250 1998 light duty won't shift out of park


For car not changing gears and not shifting out of park mode ,it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

Chevy 350 turbo trans. comes out of gear while cruzing


Sounds like a loss of hydraulic pressure inside the transmission die to leaking seals to the clutch pack.

1996 BLAZER 350: The tranmission won't shift past 2nd gear. It works in L2 but slips to neutral after 2nd gear when shifter is in D or OD position and accellerator is under load.


Sorry this is bad news, the transmission line presser is to low in the transmission, it will have to be rebuilt or replaced....SORRY TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS

I Have a turbo 350 transmisson when you put it into gear it wont move until you git the rpm's up to about 3500.


Since I don't know your vehicles history this may be a bit more complicated than it needs to be. If you bought it like that, and the shift points are very solid with no slipping, then it is likely that you have a race type converter with a high stall speed in there.
If shifting and going into gear were normal before this happened, first make sure the fluid is full and the filter is not obstructed. If everything there is good then chances are the converter, pump, or both, are failing and the unit needs to be rebuilt. (with converter replacement) Slipping or flaring on shifts may also be a symptom, but you did not mention that.

1977 chevy with a turbo 350 slipping out of gear


Check the TV (throttle valve) cable, if that's out of adjustment the trany will think you want passing gear. Try disconnecting the cable at the carburator, that should make it shift into high gear at about 25 MPH and stay in high until you slow down. If it fails to stay in high gear then you have major problem. Are there a lot of miles on it? Are you sure you have enough fluid in it? Does the fluid smell burned. It might be just worn out. Can't get low gear


if memmory serves me correct its been a while since last tranny rebuild and adjustment
on a 700-r4 type transmission
make sure that the shim kit was used properly with this transmission cause wrong sized length of linkage can make the trans. shift improperly
you have the linkage under neith adjusted wrong the shift bar on tranny should face 90 degrees up towards front of vehicle engine for proper adjustment
