Idle Air Control (IAC) under the throttle plate might need to be cleaned or replace. Sometimes they stick and other times they just go bad.

Chrysler 300m starts at high idle in cold weather

First check the error codes. they can be a lifesaver. Physically look under the hood for cracked or leaky vaccuum hoses. High idling often indicates a vaccuum leak somewhere. look at the vaccuum elbows on both the right and left side of the engine just about midway down the engine from front to back on the plenum- that's the big, black flat assy that channels the air as it goes into the engine.
Once again the codes can tell us alot.

I have a 2001 v6 camaro. The problem is, everytime i slow down or when i come to a complete stop my car starts shaking/rattling. What can be causing this to happen?

the idle screw needs to be adjusted also check you vaccuum hose on the motor one might be off causing poor vaccuum to the motor.

Why does my 1988 jetta idle irratic?

Erratic idle is usually due to a broken leaking vaccuum hose. I would start by checking all the small black vaccuum hoses under the hood for cracks. Replace as needed. Thanks for asking at Fixya.com.

High idling on a 96 cavalier.

Check for a bad vaccuum hose under the hood. A vaccuum leak will raise your idle.

With my foot on the brake and in drive I rev the gas but when I take my foot off the car idle drops and then it stalls

Check under the hood for a vaccuum leak. This could be a bad vaccuum hose. If no vaccuum leak then this actually sounds like your IAC is bad (idle air control motor) and needs replaced.

Truck idles high, does not run rough, idle adjust screw is bottomed out still seems to idle high, does this hot and cold.

I would check for a broken vaccuum hose . A vaccuum leak will raise the idle considerablly.

My toyota hilux surf 1992 auto, 3L 4x4, keeps cutting out when i put it in reverse and drive. sometimes it will go for a couple of minutes then just cut out randomlly. whats wrong with it and how do i fix...

Sounds like the idle is too low. This could be due to a bad vaccuum line or a faulty IAC if this car has fuel injection. IAC = Idle Air Control motor. Check for loose or broken vaccuum lines first. If no vacuum are bad and you can keep the car running by keeping your foot on the gas a little and dies when you let the gas pedal up then I would think the IAC is bad. A poor idle can also be the result of a long overdue tune up.

check for a vaccuum leak this is where i would start if it rolled into my shop. possibly a PCV valve sticking or a hole in the hose, this hose should run from the valve cover, or crank case and then to the intake, or carb.

Engine runs at a fast idle. This started after a backfire during a start up;

I would check vaccuum hoses are all connected and unbroken.
Sounds like maybe when it "backfired" it popped a vaccuum line loose.
The way I check for Vaccuum leaks is spray WD-40 the entire length of each hose while it is running, when vaccuum sucks in the WD-40 it will "Rev" the engine some.
