Could be valve stem seals. when it sits the oil leaks down into the cylinders and is burned off when first started. isn't noticible when driving because not a lot of oil leaking into cylinders until it sits for a while and accumlates

All I'm asking is how many miles does a Ford Expedition go up to.

Depends entirely on the vehicle usage and maintenance.

I once dealt with a vehicle owned by a little old lady who wasn't very mobile. She used it to go to the shops and it hardly went anywhere else. At seven years old the engine was completely worn out at around 4500 miles.

On the other hand such vehicles as taxis and courier vans that are working two or three shifts per day, seven days a week never really endure the cold start where the majority of engine wear takes place and well-maintained examples regularly achieve half a million miles.

There is no recommended change point for an engine - simply change it when there is something too expensive wrong or it has become worn and rattly and started being smoky, unreliable and uneconomic.

My question is how would you know if the turbo was gone on a 2002 jeep santa fe as there is a loud knocking sound in it plus very smoky

You know it is gone for both those reasons. Bearings are shot and the oil seals are gone. Plus the noise come from it.

My 1993 ford Festiva W model is smoky at start up mostly first start for the day and fine through out the day guessing cause the engine is warm, I have since done a service including- engine cleaning detox...

white smoke could be steam from condensation in the exhaust or maybe valves? check your ignition timing maybe the black smoke caused by the car running to rich.

My 85 mercedes has a dead battery and a smoky smell inside.

the car may have a surface discharge which causes the battery to discharge on its own because the car just draws a little current constantly from the battery until it cant handle it any more. use a Midtronics powersensor micro500 tester this may help in finding out if it is a surface discharge or bad battery nothing else.

Loud & smoky smell

could be open at the top of the muffler .......or may be a flange connection between the headers and the intermediate pipe or the connection along the seam or to the muffler

you will need a light and with the vehicle running {{Visually Inspect}} for smoke or louder noise to seclude the area /s of this issue .
