96 Saturn Sc1 does not start after you turn it off

I have a 96 Saturn Sc1 automatic. The problem is that sometimes when I turn it off it will not start again right away. I try to turn it over and it makes no noise what so ever. The lights on the dash still work. The lights do not dim when I try to start it. If I let it sit for awhile it will start. Do you have any idea's what could cause this? Someone said it might be some kind of switch that makes it think that the car is still in gear.

I had that problem with my 87 van.The gage they used showed it had enough amps but she still wouldn't start. I had to get a better battery. Mine had enough to run it till I stopped one time. Then I had to wait for awhile before it would start again. I have not had any trouble since I got the new battery. No one ever found out why the other battery tested ok or wouldn't start after one trip anywhere.

check the connection to the starter located at the back of the engine (you have to get at it underneath), mine does the same thing i cleaned the connections and put some lube on the starter gear and it works like a charm now

What years are interchangeable for a manual 5speed transmission in a 1999 saturn sl1?

96-99 SL1, SC1, SW1. Avoid the 2 models, they are DOHC and have different gear ratios

11. Trans axle Codes present

Saturn Sc1, Sc2, SL1, SL2 Automatic Transmission codes when turning right after a reset or when hitting third gear. Intermittant dash lights dead, fuel pump failure and check engine light says various codes having to do with car starting in gear. Mine had a bad ignition switch which burned up the wires connected to the automatic transmission start satety switch. On the back of the transmission a black plastic device connected to the shifter cable. You must remove the black plastic shield from the upper wire to see if the wires inside are burned on the top connector that has six wires. If they are get a junkyard replacement connector and wires. Replace the ignition switch first to avoid same problem.

96 Saturn SC1 (automatic): b 4 installing (CPS) crankshaft position sensor...she ran beautiful...now, rough idle and the moment she's put in gear, she stalls-out. I shimmed the sensor, she runs OK, but...

If it ran beautiful I don't see why you installed CPS. ???

The CPS and CAS should only be replaced if the car is stalling or shorting out. I just changed the CAS on my 95 Talon but only because it was cutting off like I turned the key off.

If the only thing you did was change the CPS then it's not lined up right. Every car is different but the CPS usually has to be aligned.

I have a 95 saturn automatic. It looks like sometimes it will not downshift and stall on a stop. At the same time, check engine comes on.

When the check engine light comes on you need to have the codes read. Most auto part stores will read them for free.
