Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Am
I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. It shakes pretty good while I am stopped in gear. The moment I take my foot off the brake the shaking stops. It runs fine while driving. If the AC is on the shaking is a little worse.
The Air Idle Control Valve (IAC) may be bad or dirty with carbon build up. Check for loose wire, remove and try to spraying it with throttle body cleaner to clean the carbon out and dry it with a hair dryer before installing.
The other thing to look for to is stuck EGR valve. same process as the (IAC) as to cleaning it too. If both are beyond cleaning then replace it.
You can go to Auto Zone and have the car scanned for any DTC codes which would indicate any problems with the (IAC) and EGR's performance.
The other thing to that would make the engine shake at low RPM's is bad spark plug and wire or low engine compression, but that would give you problems through out the whole engine's performance.
Good luck and hope this helps, Start with the (IAC) and EGR as to cleaning and scanning the engine.
