Question about 1993 Mercury Villager

1 Answer

Car wont start

I have a 1995 Villager. I changed out the spark plugs and gave it an oil change and now it will not start. The plugs were saturated in oil so I went and bought more. Also the new air filter I had installed was also covered in oil. It is right there on the verge of starting, but will just NOT fire up. Any suggestions???

I took them off 1 at a time. I have done tune ups before and it almost sounds like it is miss firing. I looked at the rotor button and the distributor cap. They looked like they need to be changed as well. The van was running fine until I did the oil and tune up. It started up and ran for about 5 minutes then stalled out and has not started since.

Did you change the spark plugs one wire at a time or did you pull all the wires off an then changed the plugs? If you put the spark plug wires back on wrong this will cause some of the problems you are facing. Get a $20 manual from you parts store and it will give you the diagram and steps to put the wires on correctly. good luck and get some help from a neighbor who understands car repair.

Check your wires and firing order. It is easy to get one wire out of place and when this happens the vehicle will mis-fire or foul up the plugs. When I was learning in my young days I found that it was easy to mix up a wire and put on the wrong plug. If the plugs get oil on them again clean them and make sure the spark plugs are properly gapped such as .035. I am glad you have worked on cars before and sometimes we as mechanics have to double re-check ourselves by making sure we did not miss something or did something wrong especially if we were interrupted while working by a phone call or a conversation with someone. That is the normal life a mechanic. Good Luck

2005 Pt Cruiser running poor at acceration

If plugs helped...the problem went away...then it could be a plug getting fouled by excess fuel or oil. Look at your new plugs and see if they are discolored or went with gas. could be an injector problem. It could also be an ignition problem. You moved the plug wires around and they worked for a few minutes till the new "connection in the wire" burned up. Check your plug wires with an ohm meter. Check your plugs for fuel or oil on plug...a sign of stuck injector, oil leak, misfire. Did it really help or was it just wishful thinking?

So i have a problem with my 2002 grand prix gt it has 120,000 miles on it. i was coming home from work one night and the low coolant light came on it got pretty hot but i made it home. My dad put coolant...

Check for spark at the plugs and check the fuel pressure. Also remove the spark plugs and check for fouled or wet plugs. A plug that is saturated with gas will not spark. Clean the plugs and dry them off and try to start. If all looks good then check cylinder compression to check for a blown head gasket.

Where is the drain plug for the oil? I am just trying to change the oil and I don't know where the drain plug is

Look for the oil pan under the car. I did a google search and it gave me this:

1995 f250 460 fuel injected wont start seems flooded advice?

If it seems flooded, the first thing to do is put a battery charger, or a battery pack or jumper cables on the battery, and hold the gas petal to the floor while cranking the engine-do this for no more than 10 second spurts, resting for at least 30 seconds between trys-then, try starting it normally (no petal at all). Do this a few times, NO petal. If it doesn't start, you have a couple of options. Get a can of starting fluid and spray it directly into the mouth of the throttle body. Not too much, a 3 second burst should work. If it does not start after this, you need to verify that you truly have spark. You can do this by placing the shaft of a screw driver (use a phillips head) and hold it by the handle, with the shaft close to a metal part of the engine, while someone cranks it over-you should see (and hear) the spark jump the gap to the metal of the engine. You can also observe the tachometer on the dash when you turn the key-does the needle move when you crank? If so, you have spark. At this point, I'd remove the plugs, and replace them-they are probably so saturated with fuel that you need to just trash them and install fresh plugs. It should then start, but make a commitment to change the oil and filter, because the flooded condition has probably thinned the oil to the point that it should be changed to avoid damage to bearings, lifters and other moving parts.
