Check the thermostat first. Follow top water hose from the radiator to the water pump. To check for problem with water pump see if you see anti-freeze somewhere leaking or do you hear a strange noise. Also check your top and bottom hoses.

I think my water pump is out. How would I know

could be the water pump but I would be looking for a larger leak, like a radiator hose, radiator tank split
most water pumps leak a slow dribble and then mostly when running
have a pressure test done on the cooling system to find the exact location of the leak

Engine runs hot I am thinking the engine coolant temperature sensor needs to be replaced where is it located?

I could be of more help if I knew the year make and mode. It will be somewhere on the engine block. If it indicates normal when the car is cold and then gets hot, I would suspect it is working and take a look at the thermostat as the problem.

Heater quit working runing hot no water in

Fill it up, run until it's hot and see if you see anything coming out of the water pump. I don't think the heater has anything to do with the running hot problem. The heater valve may need replaced or freed up. Good luck!

Can't find the thermostat .car running hot.water pump working find,i think its the thermostat

Follow the upper radiator hose to where it hooks on the engine. The thermostat is located inside the housing that the hose hooks onto. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Heat gauge shows hot , have to add antifreeze although no leak

Very common fault is head gaskets.  causing coolant consumption and bubbles in radiator.  Run vehicle, have a friend accelerate once or twice hard, while you smell exhaust for sweet smell of burning coolant.
