OBD Code says ''Lean Bank 2 - System too lean

I have a 1999 Ford F-150 4.2L V-6 w/ 79,000 miles on it. Excellent condition. No rust. Want to sell it. However, Check Engine light came on. Had it scoped. Lean Bank 2- System too lean. Which side iof engine is Bank 2? Runs great. Some times there is a slight miss, barely notice it, not always there. Recently, I replaced the plugs, wires, fuel filter, O2 on the lower drivers side, (alternator, drive belt, pulley, starter because they were due). Can you help me?

Bank 2 is generally the passanger side. Recently, We have run across a few system to lean codes in Fords. We have ended up changing the O2 sensors.

Hi,

I'm Ben and -- hopefully -- I can provide some meaningful assistance.

In my opinion, the problem lies with you P0174 reading. I'll explain.

OBD II Fault Code

OBD II P0171
OBD II P0174

Fault Code Definition

OBD II P0171 Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1)
OBD II P0174 Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 2)

Symptoms

  1. Check Engine Light will illuminate
  2. In some cases, no adverse conditions may be noticed by the driver
  3. In other cases, there may be performance problems, such as a lack of power on acceleration and some "coughing" or misfiring
  4. The vehicle may have trouble idling, especially when warm or when sitting at a stoplight

Common Problems That Trigger the P0171 and P0174 Code

  • PCM software needs to be updated
  • Vacuum leaks (Intake Manifold Gaskets, vacuum hoses, PCV hoses, etc.)
  • Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)
  • Plugged Fuel Filter or weak Fuel Pump
  • Plugged or dirty Fuel Injectors

Failed OBDII Diagnstic trouble codes P0761 and O1744 What does this mean?

code P0761-
Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid 3 valve
- Shift solenoid 3 valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid 3 valve circuit is open or shorted
P0761 FORD Description Shift solenoid valve 3 is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position. When is the code detected? The P0761 code is detected when the ECM has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized, valve stuck off code O1744- is not a code these are the ones I have found that come close

Yes my truck is 1998 ford f 150 4.2 an i have code po174

DTC code p0174 means "System too lean (Bank 1)"

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exahust). On V6/V8/V10 engines

, Bank 2 is generally the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.

Service engine soon code p0174

PO174= system too lean Bank 2. Good chance oxygen sensor acting up, may need replacement. If it's 4.6L, that's driver side of engine.

Ford windstar check engine light comes on after stopping when starting to get moving again shows p0171 & p0174 codes why??

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks. P0174 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

System Too Lean (Bank 2)

What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Thanks.
