Question about 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara

Suzuki GV burns oil

Bought a 2001 Suzuki GV from a private party. Drove it 400 miles to home and had to put 3 qts of oil in it along the way. Now a repair shop did a compression test and said it is a blown head gasket. However, there is no water in the oil and no oil in the water and no water loss in the radiator and no oil leaks under the car and it runs cool on the gauge. It does smoke when first started with a whitish blue colored smoke when engine first starts from cold. Could it be the valve stem seals? Thanks for your opinion.

The answer was good but I will check on my radiator to see if it has bubbles. If I see bubbles, what do you think the head gasket replacement will cost me?

Valve seals will not cause this kind of oil consumption, a scocred cylinder wall or broken piston ring will, not sure on the head gasket, does it have a combustion gases present in the radiator surge tank or bubbles while running? if not the head gasket is probaly ok.

Hello first off

Well usually i would try to help with the problems but being that your car is brand new and all i think you should push to get into another car.

As i worked at bmw manufacturing it sounds like a friday car sounds crazy but im very serious no new car should leak burn or leak that much oil and be blowing fuses like that its a lemon.

start reviewing your your local lemon laws i would hate to see you stuck with something that's just always going to be a problem.

If it helps you out at all can you leave me thumbs up thanks

Bought the envoy w/ 70,000 miles, fresh oil change. @ 74,000 miles it was 1.5 qrts low, put in 5w30, checked oil 2 weeks later it was 1 qrt low. do not see smoke or any leaking.

I just bought a 2005 envoy too. I read in the manual that the 4.6 6 cyl engine needs 7 qts total. 2 Over the normal oil change. Is it possible it wasn't low to start? I noticed when Walmart changed the oil they charged extra for the change because it needed the two extra qts. However my dip stick has oil over the full mark. Seemed strange but I haven't had any leaks and after 3k mile no change in level. Make sure you had the correct about the first time.

How many miles on transmission before having to change the oil?

That all depends on how you drive it. If you beat the car and you do not maintain it, chances are it will fail very early in its service life. If you drive conservatively and have the transmission serviced at frequent intervals it will last the life of the car.

I have a bronco with 268,000 miles on it, yes 268,000 miles on a ford. It doesn't burn a drop of oil and the tranny is original. Everything works great, but I was religious about changing the oil every three thousand miles and making sure the tranny was serviced.

In contrast my wife owned a 98 Hyundai (before I met her) she never changed the oil and drove like a lunatic, the tranny went at 116,000 miles and it burned oil like it was going out of style. go figure.

2001 Saab SE red engine light and oil can, possible throttle

first off your mechanic sounds like he's taking you for a ride! If the oil lights coming on you need to check your oil pressure. I wouldnt drive this car anymore till I knew for sure I was getting good oil pressure through out the motor. Find a different mechanic! Mechanics are some of the biggest lying thieves! Right up there with lawyers.

Oil light goes on...had a dry stick 4 1/2 qts put in. no oil on ground. after oil change light went on at 70 miles.. on 15 secs then off for 5 miles then on again 15 secs--- off 4 miles--off 3 miles- off 2...

if it's not going onto the ground, and it's not being burned, check the positive crankcase ventilation and the exhaust gas recirculation valves for oil seepage...also check your air filter, if its got oil on it replace the pcv valve.

Nissan Xterra is burning oil. I drove 1,000 miles in two days and it burnt 3 quarts of oil, but there is no leak underneath the truck. Does anybody have any idea?

your pvc valve not working.or you have leaking valve seals or worn valve guides wornrings .and your oil return holes get stop up oil.

Add enough oil to get the stick reading back to the full line. Oil can't either you are burning it or leaking . If you used more than two quarts in 400 miles, if it's burning it it definitely should be fouling plugs and smoking. If leaking, there has to be wet oil under the engine somewhere. Check everything over again to verify either condition.

2001 shelby series 1 with 10,000 burns oil

Yep it's more than likely worn valve stem seals. What happens when your motor cools down the seals contract and oil passes through the gap and then when you start it again the oil burns. It will more than likely last years depending on how much oil your burning if you need to put more than 500ml in a week you probably should get a mechanic to check it out.
