Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

Gas fumes inside and out side the car when it is hot outside

I have a 1999 Ford Windstar. Last year someone tried to steal my gas and disconnected the hose. It was leaking gas quickly and smellling of fumes. I immediately took it to a station and they reattached the hose. The very next day it smelled of fumes but was not leaking. Since that time when it is hot outside 95+ and after driving about 30 minutes it starts to smell again. It didn't smell all winter but just started again when we hit the hot weather. It is not leaking gas and the check engine litght does not come on.

I don't think that will help. The van has been cleaned several times since then. Also, it only happens when it is hot outside. I'm thinking it has to have somethnig to do with the venting but I don't know the anatomy of a van?

Try having the area that the hose was disconnected from steamed cleaned, or go to a car wash wash and spray the area. It might help, that is if you already haven't done so.

Follow the fuel line to the engine. Look over the fuel rails and fuel connections looking for any cracks or breaks.

I need a fuel tank for my 1999 Ford Windstar IMS Rampvan

I see that you have a special duty Van. I would use the part number and the Vin# of the van and contact Ford Customer Service. Ford must have supplied the chassis to a Specialty shop for modification. I doubt if you have a Ford part number, but even a Ford part number can be listed in a book coded "OSI".

The "OSI" means obsolete, superceded, and Interchange. That book would be if you have a Ford tank. Either the modifier or Ford should know what was used or who modified your Van. I suspect
that the ramp mechanism takes up precious room.

There are some gas tank Manufacturers that may be able to help if they supplied the aftermarket firm converting your van.

Another possible source of information may be Helm Publishing which I believe is in Highland Park, Michigan, a Detroit suburb.
They print the Service Manuals for both Vehicles and Boats. I would imagine some sort of Manual was printed for a Specialty Van.

Yet another possible repair could be done by a good Radiator shop. It may be possible to patch and coat a liner inside what is left of your present gas tank..

Your tank dimensions will be helpful to determine volume. You should have a similar size tank to keep your gas gauge accurate.

The last suggestion I have is or This is a Nationwide Salvage yard Association. I do not know if they can help you because the part you need is the first one taken off and destroyed for safety reasons. But not everyone follows the rules. You would still have transportation concerns with gas fumes. New is probably best.

I hope one of my suggestions helps you.

Fumes inside 1998 subaru forester

I had a 2000 with leaking fuel lines. There are a few molded rubber lines. Check the condition of the rubber and the hose clamps. If they are wet, you have a leak. When replacing use the good clamps that you can tighten with a nut driver

Strong gas fumes coming from 2001 windstar

The "cause" would be a fuel system or EVAP system leak. If the fumes are that strong, then I would take the vehicle back to Ford again and make the sevice manager stick his nose in it and then tell you there is no problem....

Cant get gas to injecters 2000 ford windstar it was 5 out last night and 25 out today weve been having problems getting it to start for the last 2 weeks

Disconnect your supply lines to the cylinders. Try starting the car while someone watches the disconnected lines. If fuel pumps from the lines you need to have your injectors cleaned or replaced. More likely it is your fuel pump that has gone bad. If you dont see any fuel flowing from the disconnected fuel lines, try replacing your fuel pump and replace your fuel filter too just to be prevent pushing any dirt and sediment from a dirty filter into a new pump.
