Question about 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

1 Answer

Car stalling then starting repeatedly ...

I just bought a 2005 VW beetle.  It drove fine, then they had to replace the battery cover, in which they had to unhook the battery. Since then, the car stalls every day, mostly one time in the morning.  It turns over, then stalls.  I wait about 20 or 30 seconds and then it starts and runs fine.
I don't believe it could be the keys, as it stalls with all of them, even with the valet !  The dealer wants to charge $120 to run a diagnostic.  They said all battery cables are secure, though I'm not sure what to believe at this point.
I am about ready to return the car.  Anyone have any idea ?  Please help !

Any Autozone or O'reilly auto parts can do the fault code testing for free. Do that fault code first and post the fault codes you get from the test.

1999 VW starts then dies

the idler is blocked in the intake, or the idle controller has failed, if you take the air pipe off the intake there is a butterfly and on the side you will see a hole, on the side you will see a device, now some time you can just spray some carb cleaner in there and give it a good flush out. also spray the butterfly and clean this up. open with the cable and do the same. you may fined that the air filter needs replacing so would do this at the same time. leave for 10 min and then start engine don't worry about it coffing etc its just the cleaner being burnt off in the engine give it a few good revs. then let it idle for 5 min, when you have done that then fit the pipes back on. run engine it should be fine now, if not repeat.

When I approach stop light and press in clutch to shift down, car stalls. Battery light comes on. Sometimes will restart and be OK until next stop, other times will not restart until it "rests"...

if it is cranking and starting back i would say its not a batt or alternating problem

most likely the reason the batt light is coming on is because its idleing rough as it quits running if it were me i would just drive it to a dealer and save the toe bill

2004 VW New Beetle Stalling

Check the oil level to make sure you have sufficient oil in the crankcase, and that it's not burnt. Also check the level of the antifreeze/coolant in the cooling system. Low levels can cause the car to shut down. Alway look at the cheaper easy to solve problems, then move to the more complicated.

Beetle looses power, stalls etc.

the best thing to do is have the car scanned. This will identify any electrical issue that might be causing this. The ignition coils on the gas engines seem to fail from time to time. This could also be the mass air sensor.

98 Beetle needs to "warm up" before moving.. stalls while driving

I would start by scanning the car, your Audi friend should be able to help, being that they are basically the same car. If nothing appears then start looking at wire harnesses and grounds, VW uses brown wires for it's grounds very common to have a bad engine ground to mess you up. Good luck.

My beetle just engine just went off while driving

Make sure the battery terminals are secure. Other than that I would guess there is an electrcal fault on the vehicle. I am not familiar with the beetle but think if I were driving your vehicle I would make sure all electrical connections were as they should be.

2001 VW Beetle Will not start

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D
