Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima

1995 NISSAN MAXIMA RUNNING POORLY.....

I have 165,000 kms on the car, last week started "shaking" during idle and while engaged in driving. Seems to have no power while acclerating and almost like a "dead miss". In parking and Neutral the "shaking" is not so bad, but engaged in "reverse and drive" shakes badly throught-out the steering wheel and whole car. The air filter is only 2 months old....Please help?? (Hope its not the timing) Runs rough at all speeds. find if i disconnect the cam timing sensor the engine runs smooth. has had new chains fitted. was very rattly. was missing sometimes before chains replaced. have checked coils. all ok. found only running on 3 cylinders with cam sensor connected. runs fine with cam sensor disconnected

Removing the can sensor and it fixes the problem indicates that you need to replace that sensor

Try replacing spark plug wires. Probably one grounding out sometimes.

When I start my car there is gas smell and it has poor acceleration. The acceleration gets better as the car warms up... The car also idles rough.I recently had an oil change I also changed the spark plugs...

the gas smell makes me think EGRS (Exhaust Gas Recirculation System) check all your Vacuum hoses, start at your charcoal canister and work backwards.

A vacuum problem explains your conditions at least...

It sounds like a clogged catalytic converter. If you can unbolt it; try unbolted it and see how it runs. Also try unplugging the sparkplug wire one at a time and see if the shaking gets worse or stays the same. When you pull a spark plug wire and the car stops shaking then that cylinder isn't firing. Watch out though, you'll get a nasty shock if you do it without insulated pliers. It could be a stuck valve or bad ignition.

2001 nissian maxima se low idle

adjust the idling, if too low then it can't sustain the power needed to keep the engine running when it engages.

My nissan maxima stalls

Every answer here is wrong. This has been driving people nuts for 15 years. The problem is the engine wiring harness which has a bend going past the right strut tower, Nissan had a service bulletin on this in September of 1999, Google it, it's in pdf.

Nissan Maxima car repair ripoff

I'm wondering if your injectors are leaking. If they are, and the car sits for a period of time like you're saying, fuel would puddle up and the car would run extremely rich until the excess puddled fuel burned off. Did you (or do you) notice black smoke from the tailpipe during the time the car is running really rough? Take a look and see - rev the engine if you need to, and see if you see some. It'd take a few minutes to burn off, and once it did, as long as the rest of the car is working right, you'd run normally. If you shut the car off for a short time (ie, getting gas, renting a movie) the car likely wouldn't sit long enough for enough fuel to puddle up for the condition to recur. If you park it overnight, that's plenty of time for the injectors to leak enough fuel for the car to run rough on startup.

No guarantee of course, but that's what sounds like a worthwhile investigation to me.
