Question about 1990 Nissan 300ZX

No headlights, dash or tail lights working!

My fiance and I just bought a 300zx and he decided to change all the locks including the ignition. We also bought a new radio and installed that as well. Since we made those changes we are having trouble with lights. The high beams work but not your regular headlights, there are no dash lights to illuminate the gauges but the radio and clock lights up and the tail lights don't work but we have brake lights. He has looked at the wiring under the steering column and says it looks fine. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Well, to accurately determine the problem as fast as possible you could perform a ECU diagnostics.Located Here: http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=249406check and verify the diagnostic meaning using the FSM (Factory Service Manual)Located here: http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgiWhen your fiance replaced the radio, there is a ground wire that will be behind the radio bevel (the face plate around the bevel) this is just clipped in and can be removed by simply pulling -- be careful they can crack easily. After you remove the bevel, look around for any grounding wires that have been removed. On average a shop will charge you $60 approx to correct this issue. (Based off of my local area)If what i recommended didnt help, check the ECU diagnostics, it's very easy to perform and will give you an exact description of where to look for your problem =) If you need further help (same goes for anyone) email me at corruptedstudios@hotmail.comBest Regards,Kyle

Start with checking all the fuses. you could have shorted out a wire when installing the radio.

What make all the lights go out on 1987 nissan zx

My guess would be one of the main fuses for the headlight switch, or the headlight switch itself.

Dash and tail lights stopped working on my daughters 1991 toyota celica gt. the fuse has been checked and replaced. it was ok. the headlights were recently changed. is it true the dash and tail lights run...

If the tail lights and the dash lights stopped working and the tail light and the panel lighting fuses are both o.k. and you can find no other blown fuses then the problem is most likely the headlight switch.

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck

300zx headlight problem

Check to see if you have power to them with a test light. If yopu do, replace bulbs, if you don't check ground wire and circuit breaker.

The dash in my 1986 nissan decides to work whenever it wants to and its not showing any lights on the dash now and the wipers and heater and tail lights are cutting out, i think it might be a short

ok I had the same dash problems. there is a metal power box above your right knee on the drivers side.take out the 2 bolts and remove the box. re solder all the prongs in the box. 99% of the time these prong's solder gets cracks and stop working. as for the tail lights take out the lights from the back hatch and clean the contacts. the wiper problem is probably in the stick switch itself. hope this helps...
