Question about 1992 Buick Park Avenue
1992 Park Ave. won't start. The battery is good, starter was removed and cleaned and we went ahead and replaced brushes, but will not start with ignition key. The starter works and turns the motor when hot wire directly, but the car still will not run when key is in the run position. It acts like it is starving for fuel. There is spark at the spark wires. From what I have read on the internet it acts as if it is the V.A.T.S. system. But everything I have read says the security light will flash or be on if it isn't reading the key properly. My security light gives no indication when we try to start it. I know the light works because it flashes properly when locking and unlocking the doors. Am I looking in the right direction, or should I be looking for something else? vehicle will not crank with key.It will crank when hot wired, starter is good, not a fuel problem, tried a new key, same result.
Here is a detailed write-up on how to bypass the entire VATS security system yourself.

When the Theft Deterrent Module (TDM), that is the core of the VATS system, cease to function, the security light could also stay off because it's the TDM itself that manage it.
In my case that's what happened, the faulty TDM was recognizing the key, turning off the security light, activating the starter relay, but was not sending the fuel enable signal to the PCM.
There is a great write-up on how to completely bypass the TDM here: http://newrockies.ca/vatsbypass . This is what saved my car.
