i think the code is because of the very low idle but i did change it and it is still the same. yesterday i started it and sprayed it with carb clean and it smoothed out and i was able to acclerate.so i got another fuel pressure reading and its at 40psi. i also had a code 42 for e.s.t so i took the ignition module of and took it in to have tested it was fine. cleared the codes and the only one that came back was the map. it has the 5volt ref, ground,at idle the reading is 3.5volts going back to the ecm

Tried cleaning the mass air flow sensor? Also, check that proper vacuum is getting to map.

And you changed the sensor and then what? Or you chose to ignore code and sensor?

There is a idle adjusment screw, jus under the air filter.. check that, also check your spark plugs and wires to make sure all are firing and lastly i would look into the timing of it since its the hardest to do..

My '91 GMC Jimmy suddenly died like it was out of gas. It restarts, but idles rough, sputters and pulses. Plenty of fuel comes out of the injectors, but it wants to stall and die.

start at the beginning fuel pump pressure at the pressure regulator then look for ignition problems , check mass air flow sensor if equiped

91 plymouth sundance died, oil on ground, check engine on

If you feel like the engine is still ok, I would look at the oil pressure and check engine light issues.
On engines with fuel injection, the fuel pump is powered by the pump relay until the engine starts. Then the engine has to have oil pressure to keep the fuel pump powered.
Its a safety feature so if you are in a wreck the fuel pump does not keep running if the engine is off.
I would want to know why the oil pressure light is staying on and what the trouble codes are in the computer.

My 93 firebird starts but sputters and dies

I agree with Dennis on checking the fuel pressure.
Could be a bad pump, restriction in the tank, vent problem in the tank, bad fuel filter, or bad pump relay.

02 6 liter Denali sputtered and died while driving on highway. Started once or twice afterward but than died again. Has fuel pressure at fuel rail when pressing schrader valve with key on. Cranks, will...

possibly 4 things 1 bad ignition coil heating up then breaking down,2 clogged fuel filter,3 weak fuel pump,4 bad throttle position sensor or map sensor to check sensors simply put on hand held scanner and look for codes. replace fuel filter replace coil pack along with tune up plugs wires put fuel pressure gauge to see if fuel pump is working properly

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

Truck starts low idle about 500rpm, sputters then

Does it do this on warm restarts or on cold starts? Have you checked fuel pressure? It sounds like a bad pump, but I would try the filter first.

MUTIPORT FUEL INJECTION PONTIAC FIREBIRD 3.1

My 92 Bird with the 3.1 did the same thing after it sat for about 2 months. The car had aways started right away before. I had to jump start it and I thought it would never start.Same as yours after it started. Seem to get better after I ran it awhile. It was getting good spark and was getting fuel. I checked fuel pressure, it seemed to be within specs.then it started to sputter and the pressure dropped to almost nothing. Seems that the fuel pump was going bad, but still would pump enough fuel at times to run. When the car was parked the fuel pressure would bleed off, and when I tried to start it the pump had trouble pumping enough fuel to pressure the system.Long story short! Replace the fuel pump, and filter.....
