Question about 1987 Toyota Pickup

1 Answer

Suspension bushings compatibility

I have a 1987 Toyota Hilux, LN56, 2L engine.

I need to replace all the suspension bushings but I can,t find them (do not want to buy the OEM stuff) I want to replace them with those high performance urethane bushings but the only ones i can get are for the LN55 model.
I want to know if those models share the same bushings or if they are different.

Thanks for your help. Gilberto.

  • Thanks, but my Toyota pickup did not came with the 22R engine. It came with 2L engine, which uses diesel fuel. The chassis is the same ? or the fact that it is diesel means that the chassis is different ?

    Thanks.

According to the three sites I checked all of the Hilux models from 1979-1997 have interchangeable bushings.

You have a major task in front of you .The wiring and computer are not the same. get the computer and wiring loom from the donor engine vehicle. You will have to rework the exhaust system ,cooling system, transmission and drive shaft, rework the front suspension springs because of extra weight. Do check with the main roads department or other body as they may refuse to register or insure it.

2007 dodge caliber suspension arm bushing clunking noise how do you replace it?

It is really hard to say at this point. You are asking a question about a 2007 Dodge Caliber, posted under the heading of 1998 Toyota Avalon, and are making reference to a "suspension arm bushing", which could refer to probably at least 20 different parts of your suspension system.

How to replace lower control arms on 1987 Toyota 1 ton pickup

Disconnect stabilizer bar and shock. Remove Lower ball joint. Remove the two bolts that hold the lower suspension arm to the frame. A lot of times the later model trucks these bolts are completely seized requiring them to be cut and you will need to special order the bolt and bushings from the dealer.

1999 celica , when going over bumpy road surface get clunken noise from rear end ?

Sounds like you have worn bushes in one of the suspension components. Check the swinging arms for movement or undue slack in the mountings.. If you find any then you may be able to replace the bushes yourself as long as they are not steel cast types, for those you will need a press. Be very careful when releasing the suspension and make sure you restrict the suspension itself, coil spring compressors or release the tension on torsion bar systems. Leaf springs should have a centre bolt holding the spring together and make sure you check all joints for movement including sideways movement. If you are in any doubt about undertaking this repair, DON'T. Seek a professional as injuries can result from incorrect procedures..

Hilux surf lower wishbone bushes need replacing .is it a hard job

Hi,
If you are experiencing grinding noises when turning, it is usually the top strut bearings above the springs that transmits noise inside.
These get the worst of salt spray - so often turn to dust. You will need to drop the suspension to check this area out.
It could be that this ball joint is suspect too, but you can only tell with the pressure off it.
Also check other rubber bushes when the suspension is off, as wear on an inner one may not normally be noticed. Uneaven tyre wear is usually an alignment problem - so have the tracking checked by a garage with Laser equipment.
