Question about 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier
My coolant instantly leaks out and I believe the problem is that the water pump needs to be replaced, is this something I can do on my own? If not how much does it cost? My car is a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier.
Depends on your experience, confidence, what tools you have and how much risk you can tolerate if you get into the job and can't finish it or do it incorrectly. A water pump poorly done could result in a damaged engine. It's a fair ways complicated for a novice but within the range of someone who's done brakes or replaced belts, hoses alternators etc. To see what you have to do, find a repair book for your car at the library. Otherwise it will cost somewhere around $200 to $400 depending how complicated the repair.
