Climb under your steering wheel and locate the switch on the brake pedal.(you may have to drop the underpanel)
Check the wires, make sure they aren't knocked off. Use a test lite ot check for constant power (ignition on) at one side and switched power when the pedal is pushed down. If it doesn't switch power you need a new one. If there's no power at all, it's a blown fuse. It also may only needs to be adjusted. This will keep you busy for a while....good luck.

2001 mitsubishi montero sport 4wd battery and brake lights are on.

I doubt it is the belt because if the belt is slipping you should hear it.
The alternator could be about to crash and not charging at lower speeds.
You would check alternator output to find out.
The battery and brake warning lights are on the same circuit.

Brake lights stay on when headlights are on even when I'm not braking. 2001 mitsubishi montero sport

It is possible that you have a bad brake light switch that is sticking. (However, this will usually happen all the time, not just with the headlamps on.)

You MAY have a defective bulb. Sometimes the wires inside a bulb will "warp" from heat and cause a short in the bulb where the tail/brake filaments will touch each other.

Also make sure that all of the tail/brake lamp bulbs are the CORRECT bulbs for the vehicle.

A bulb that is installed incorrectly can also cause this.

If you have trailer wiring on your Montero, this is also a likely source of a short between the tail/brake lamps.

Finally, check the sockets to make sure they are not shorted.

The cruise control on my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XS is not working after I took my car in for a complete interior / exterior detailing. What do you suggest I check? It has worked beautifully since...

well the first thing is to check all your fuses, then i would take a look under the hood for any broken or disconnected vacuum lines, this is what i would check first, hope this is helpful.
