Does it click while reversing straight or while turning? Sounds like a stick shift. Lunging probably due to e-brake needing adjustment(if stick shift). If your car only clicks while turning in reverse you need new front axles and can probably drive that way for a while

If noise is occuring when wheel is turned it is front axles. Lunging probably due to worn parking brake. That is only if lunging occurs only once during a parking cycle.

2003 Subaru outback h6 3.0. Starts fine, when I shift into reverse or drive I get a loud grinding noise

Is your 2003 Subaru Outback automatic or manual transmission?
If it is automatic, then your transmission sounds like it's malfunctioning into the reverse gear as it is not aligning properly.
If it is manual, then your transmission sounds like it may have a bad clutch or bad reverse gear.
Either solution is not cheap. Good luck.

I am having a few problems on my 02 subaru outback sedan h6 3.0 my driveshaft feels like it is jumping. I am also getting a ping noise anytime I shift from park to reverse or drive. I am also getting a...

humming could be wheel bearings - jack car up and spin wheels - they should feel and sound smooth. Grab top and bottom of tyre and try and move backwards and forwards, if it does - whell bearing shot or needs tightening.

Transmission noise could be a driveshaft or gearbox mount being worn / broken. Jack up and move all these bits about and llok / hear for movement and you'll find the mount.

Steering wheel clicks on 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon

steering column bearing sounds like a worn out steering column... jack the front wheels off the ground both sides relieve load on steering wheel to see if it lessens the amount of feel and noise, if it does it shoud be the column bearing, replace bearings or complete column,,, also try with the wheels off the ground and safely supported to manualy steer the wheels by hand and see if you feel in roughness or hear any noises, should some minor resistance but be smooth in it movement if everything suspension and steering component wise is in good working condition... please rate my help.. thanks...

1997 subaru, starter would not engage when hot,

You need to make sure that the grounds for the body and motor are good. Sometimes just turning the bolt will clean them up but better to remove, clean and replace. Also make sure battery terminals and wires are clean and secure. Hope this helps and have a great day.

2000 Subaru Outback transmission problem

After a good deal of research and several shops suggesting a rebuild of the transmission, I decided to have the trans fluid and filters changed before doing anything. It was a tough call because it could have been a waste of $125. As soon as the spin off filter was removed you could see it was blocked. So the hydraulic pressure in the system was way down, still enough to engage reverse and enough to work all the shifts, but not enough to engage forward without a slight tap on the accelerator.

My Subaru has 240 000 km on it and I suppose the clutch pack rebuild wouldn't hurt, but as it is now it engages quickly and shifts up are noticeably smoother.

May not be the solution for every case, but it solved my situation.

2000 subaru outback/ clunk when i put it in reverse

Turn off engine . get the vehicle on level ground. try to move driveshaft back an forth or,by rocking in twist motion,,, try to hear a knock,,,this would indicate a worn universal joint.either front or back, if you are good enough to discern which one is making the klunk, change both to be on the safe side. think they may be about 20 dol apiece.
