I have an 05 GTP that is doing the exact same thing. I was thinking was more a sensor problem or computer problem. The problem is you start it go to drive and it drives like a slug. Stop, restart it and its fine. Runs like a scalded dog. Maf sensor has been cleaned, New plug wires..Doesn't happen all the time.

Hi!
I'm not there in person to see specifically what's going on underneath the hood, though I can tell that there are six (6) common causes of a car's hesitation as you accelerate, and they include the following: 1) EC system malfunction; 2) EGR system malfunction; 3) accelerator pump malfunction; 4) carburetor float malfunction; 5) vacuum hose damage; or 6) engine gasket damage. All of these are explained very well in a very handy diagnostic article at the following link:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Hesitates_When_Accelerating.htm

Eliminate these probable causes, one by one, and you'll find your applicable hesitation cause. This should definitely help you solve your problem. Good luck! Brad

Check the resistance of your throttle position valve if they are still with in specs. If not, try to adjust the mounting angle.

2005 Pontiac Grand Prix won't fire at plugs or distributed cap

My info doesn't show a distributor on this vehicle, it shows a coil pack. I guess I can't help you?
Usually if no spark at the spark plugs, I also check for fuel injector pulse. If you have neither one, I check for rpm signal and or security system issue.

2002 grand prix, changed the MAF due to code, tried a TPS from a shops recommendation. Also replaced fuel filter, car still hesitates and acts like it has a wrong fuel air mix. The hesitation happens...

It makes me wonder if the new MAF sensor did not fix the problem in that circuit? Were the codes cleared after replacing it? And engine light stays off? Only way to know is have them or someone check for new codes again. The codes direct you to a circuit malfunction. That's why a new sensor doesn't always fix the problem.
It may be something else, but one place to start is have the codes read again. If, as you say, may be an air fuel mixture, you could have your fuel pressure checked to see if it is up to specs. At least eliminate that possibility. Good luck.

I have a 00 pontiac grand prix gt and I dont know why my car hesitates when I am accelerating. Also I can feel and hear my engine bogging down like it wants to shut off esp when I am stopped or driving...

egr will only affect running at idle or slow speeds.under acceleration it can indicate poor tune-up components or even a partially plugged fuel filter not allowing enough fuel,or even a weak pump.a bad tps(throttle position sensor) can also act the same way, usually it will set a code, but not always.if it has a(maf) mass air flow sensor on this system it can cause the poor acceleration, again usually, but not always, will set a code in the computer.

It wants to die When I start it also, when I accelerate It hesitates. It just seems like it's not getting enough fuel.

fuel pump could be failing, fuel filter could be clogging, computer may need to be reprogrammed. my girls car had the same problem, and the computer had to be wipped and reprogrammed. when the fuel management systems starts to malfunction it can duplicate alot of mechanic problems.

08 Pontiac Grand Prix every so often it reduces engine power

It sounds like you are having an issue with the fly-by-wire. Isn't this car still under warranty? It could be a bad rheostat in the pedal or a bad throttle positioning servo at the engine.

Sounds like it is misfiring.
Try changing the spark plugs and you MUST run premium fuel.

2005 grand prix wont start?

If you deffinitely have fuel and spark then it must be a timing issue.

It's ok have fuel & spark but if in the wrong place at the wrong time it won't start. Check that the timing marks to and bottom are correct, the belt could have jumped.

Is it back firing into the inlet when trying to crank? Like a loudish popping noise.

My 2004 grand prix hesitates when I accelerate, but only when the engine is warm. If it sits for 15-20 min and I drive it again, it hesitates greatly when I give it gas. When it sits longer and the engine...

If the oxygen sensors have not been recently replaced, a new one should be installed. Also, perform a fuel pump pressure test. Clean fuel injection system including throttle bore, idle speed control motor and passages. If the problem still exists, scan the computer for trouble codes.
also check if Mass Air Flow Senor is operating below were it should. This condition gives you low power, replace to recheck system.

Engine dies when warm, tough warm start

If you follow the throttle linkage from around the intake you will see a little black box. Inside the box is a throttle adjustment. Ours actually slipped out of adjustment and there is where you can adjust it back...very simple to do..Give that a shot.
