1999 olds bravada misfires a couple of times before starting

Hello Angela Hylton,

I always go for the fire, fuel & air first... but it starts... so
that's a really great indication... Could just need some fresh spark plugs... (ACDELCO R44LTS6) or a cold start valve ...

(get your OBD codes read FREE (See below).

~~ 4.3L V6 Plugged EXHAUST:

I've never found an elegant way to prove it...
So we'll just jump right into...

GET some liquid wrench Penetrating Oil and
soak the EXHAUST to CATALYTIC converter bolts
really well (couple of times).

If YOU OPEN the exhaust and the engine runs smooth...
you have found a PROBEM that will do both thing you are experiencing...

Now you have to figure if it is the CAT collapsing or a
MUFFLER BAFFLE blocking the out-flow.

(It's
happened to me twice... but I'm pretty old)
((
one converter & one muffler))

FREE... (
to get you in the door)

Might be easier just to take it to a muffler shop...
and
have them run your engine codes...

If you live in CALIFORNIA... we have DIFFERENT
parts, costs & requirements (of course).

((
Somebody's BROTHER-IN-LAW is getting rich)).

But look up your prices on line... FIRST.
(know your prices BEFORE going in).

Hope this helps!!

2001 4.2 V6 check engine light on truck seems to be running fine.Rattle in my catalytic converter when idling

The rattling in the converter is more than likely a broken honeycomb disk in the converter. Ford typically uses three in their converters. Two towards the ends and one in the center. When these disks break they rattle at an idle. This will affect your emissions and the down stream oxygen sensor is telling you that there is a problem. A converter will be a very expensive item. Don't decide to remove it and not replace it. Most cars run better with the emissions equipment installed and working as they optimize fuel economy based on fuel and oxygen levels in the exhaust. Take your vehicle to a reputable exhaust shop and they will test and replace the converter for you and clear the check engine light when they have completed the repair.

2002 mazda tribute how many converters?

Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute same engine same problem check out Catalytic Converter problems on both in the long run will have to replace all 3 of the converters may blow a hole in the EGR valve too. Go for after market parts will save you money and not going thru a dealership will help but expect to pay close tto $1,800 mostly due to labor to replace these parts. If you have a check engine light try going to Auto parts store and use their computer to check out code. Not getting this fixed will leave you stranded when it goes. Vehicle will suddenly bogg down and trust me when your doing 60 mph on the hwy. and suddenly this happens to you not a good feeling. Hope this helps.

1983 Ford 150 6 cyl...Starts easy, idles relatively smooth, runs good up to 50 - 55 then when given more throttle engine starts to surge and can't get over 60. Would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Install a fuel pressure gauge on the system. Run the engine up to the problem speed and watch to see if the fuel pressure drops down. If it does, replace the fuel filter and re-test. If the fuel pressure still drops, replace the fuel pump.
Another possibility is a partially clogged catalytic converter.

You mention no check engine light, and all the work you've done leave one solution; Your catalytic converter is clogged.

When you replace you catalytic converter your issues will cease. This is a very common problem, and a simple fix.

I hope this information helps and I wish you luck with your repair.

Freeze plugs ford econoline 150

The freeze plugs can be fixed with the engine in the veicle. There are some rubber plugs available that have a bolt thru the middle. Pry out failed plug, push in rubber replacement, tighten bolt to expand rubber. Fixed.
