It's one of two things, either the idle air control valve is going bad, or you have air in the cooling system. Check and see if have any kind of coolant leak, if not it's the idle air valve. I run into the air in the coolant system more than anything on those cars and it doesn't take much air in the system to cause the problem you are describing. Good luck hope this helps.

It is most likely the idle air control valve.

Have the engine checked for vacuum leaks, that will cause a high idle speed. As a 35 year veteran of auto repair I can tell you that engine flushs are a 100% waste of your hard earned money.

The throttle cable or linkage might be sticking. Take the vehicle to a repair shop that you trust, they can probably find the problem.

My rpms jump up and down when im driving, it would also turn my abs light on and the brake warning light when it did it. i also felt the car bucking when the rpms would jump. i was turning into a parking...

Sound like she's idling too low. You're going to have to adjust that. You might want to check the spark plugs and plug wires...sometimes the plug wires can slip off and it feels like you went down a few cylinders. If it feels like it's going to cut out on you put her in neutral, that will take the strain off of the motor and what not.You should go to Auto Zone and get them to hook up to the car's computer to see what's wrong.Auto ZONE does it for free.Or if you have a mechanic friend that have a diagnostic meter, he/she will hook it up to car's computer also and it will tell you what codes are coming up and the mechanic can tell you what they mean and how to correct them.GOOD LUCK!

My 2002 dodge durango hits 4000 RPMs and bounces between 3000 and 4000 RPMs when I am in park and have the throttle held down. I replaced the cam sensor and it is still doing it.

this is your rev limiter stopping you from over reving engine causing internal damage. this is normal on all new vehicles. Don't know what year they started this but it goes back at least 16 yrs

While Idleing, My RPMs gauge goes up and down and continues until my car turns off. I put it in Park and restart it and it is fine until I am Idling again.

I had this same problem but the high rpm and thermostat indicator rise together if it does i would look at engine coolant temperature sensor your thermostat could be bad as well

is the blower motor or does it sound like the fan comes on. Draining of the battery i would look for a light on if its not the blower motor.
