Sounds like a malfunctioning valve in the system...sometimes replacing the fluid (do at least twice to get it all out) will help but many times it requires rack replacement. If you want to attempt fluid change just remove low pressure hose and drain (low one does not have pressure fitting, just a clamp) Re-fill and run, then do it again. If problem does not change within a few hours of driving, likely it will not.

with the wheels on the ground, if you pull really hard on the steering wheel will the wheels turn?

Since you already replaced the pump the only thing left is the rack and pinion.

I want to know if it is dangerous to drive with a squeeky clock spring in my van

Yes its risky. Dont drive with that noise from clock spring. Its indication of its failure.
I believe this is the "clockspring" -- the electrical cable inside the steering column that connects your steering-wheel-mounted electrical controls to the rest of the car. ("Controls" used be just the horn.) The cable wraps around the steering column so it can turn with the steering wheel. Sometimes it starts to rub and squeak.

These details will help.

Steering/brake is locked and key wont turn

Assuming the car is not running and you are trying to start it, sometimes the steering wheel is locked from the wheel thrying to turn back on itself and this won't allow the key to turn. Try turning the steering wheel all the way to the left or right then while the wheel turned, try to turn the key.

Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP FIRST BEFORE DRIVING VECHICLE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL ADD MORE POWER STEERING UNTIL REACH FULL COLD MARK..RAISE VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS OFF THE GROUND.START ENGINE LET IT IDLE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT NON STOP DONT LOCK OR STOP STEERING WHEEL KEEP TURNING IT SEVERAL TIMES CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF LOW ADD UNTIL YOU GET COLD MARK ON DIP STICK DONT OVER FILL POWER STEERING PUMP BLOW A SEAL.IF POWER STEERING FLUID LOOK TAN COLOR SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF IGNITION LET CAR SET FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF STEERING WHEEL FEEL STIFF HARD TURNING DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE NORMAL STEERING.IF STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM BLEED SYSTEM UNTIL AIR IS OUT.

I have a 2002 Cadillac Escalade that has a problem with the power steering only when I pull in to a driveway to turn around and back out turning my wheel to the right. I feel a pull and it's harder to turn...

It seems like a power steering gearbox issue, if it was the pump it would be doing it all the time whether the wheel was turned to the left or the right. I would have the gearbox checked for wear and replace if necessary.

CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IT COULD BE TOO LOW.OR YOU HAVE INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE.LACK OF LUBRICATION AT STEERING JOINTS.YOUR FRONT END OUT OF ALIGNMENT.YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY POWER STEERING PUMP.OR YOU HAVE A LOT OF AIR IN POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU HAVE TO BLEED AIR OUT OF POWER STEERING PUMP.CHECK POWER STEERING PUMP HOSES.MAKE SURE.NONE ARE LEAKING OUT FLUID.

93 Jeep Cherokee - steering problems

Check both front wheels with the steering wheel centered. One or both may appear to be pointing in the wrong direction slightly. Check both sleeves on the tie rod ends to make sure they are tight and not able to turn. (adjustment sleeves are slightly different than on most cars. One sleeve extends from the drivers side across the front and is about 21/2' long the other is shorter and is about 5" to the passenger side of the pitman arm on the steering box. If either moves, turn it 'till the wheels are fairly straight, tighten the bolts that are on the clamp around the slotted tube, and bring it to an alignment shop and have the toe in re-set.
A condition such as this is nothing to mess with. loss of steering is extremely dangerous.

Starts if you turn steering wheel

I will take a guess at this. You can't turn the key until you turn the steering wheel a little to the left or the right? This is usually caused by friction on the steering locking mechanism which keeps the key from turning in order to start the car. If this is not the case then you may have a bad ignition switch or cable head connecting to the switch that is not making contact until you move the steering wheel around and it makes contact allowing you to start the vehicle. Good Luck, RAC
