1987 Jeep YJ Hard to start hot

1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ 2.5, Thottle body. Starts cold great, when you go 25-30 miles, will not start. Blew the muffler out last year trying to start. New coil installed, did not fix. I did notice when I filled the 20 Gallon plastic tank up, it over flowed on both sides of the tank onto the ground. My guess is that the seal is shot where the fuel pump goes into the tank. Would this cause a hot start problem? Jeep goes down the road great, no bucking etc.

Sounds like a bad distributor control module. You blew-up your muffler because there was no spark.....lots of fuel in the exhaust....then an intremittent spark......BOOM!
Once the module cools off, it works again, because the crack in the circuit board re-connects....until it gets hot again, and opens the circuit........no more spark. Replace the module.

My guess is that you are using the wrong spark plugs. Check what plugs your car is designed to use, hot or cold plugs. Good Luck let me know if that worked...

My 1987 jeep yj will not go in reverse..it only has 51k miles and is auto. when i shift into neutral its sounds and moves like it wants to go in reverse,

True, but you also have to consider 51K and 25 years of service. I would try a transmission drain and refill with a new transmission filter, see if that helps. Flush the lines or replace them also.

What type of transmission do i have?

Your Wrangler is a YJ and the model is an "S". A Wrangler manufactured in 1987 through 1995 are all YJ's and then from 1997 through 2006 are all TJ's. The new Wrangler models are dubbed JK's.
