Question about 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse
I was excellerating after exiting an interstate exit and my car just started dying and seem to have lost power so I popped the clutch twice and it continued to die and come to a stop. I towed the car home and I was told it sounded like the timing chain broke by the person riding with me. I pulled the cover off of the timing chain and sure enough the timing chain broke. I can not afford a mechanic and I absolutely love my car and have no back up car. I was told there was a chance that I could have bent a valve and as stated before I can not afford a mechanic to do a 400+ job just to be told I need more work done. my question is it hard to do this job by a shade tree lol. and I also was wondering how much of a chance is there that I did bend a valve? I have a 1998 Mitsubishi eclipse rs. 2.0 litre engine.
Dealing with timing chains its harder then timing belts i mean if you have the right tools it can be done but it can be pretty difficult when dealing with the timing , and the chance of a bent valves it depends if you have a 2.0L DOHC there is definatelly a pretty good chance that u might have valve or piston damage, if you have 2.0 SOHC u wont have damage at all

If your car was running, you bent valves. eclipses are the worst with that.
