Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

Steering wheel smoke?

While i am driving i sometimes see a puff of smoke come from my steering wheel, what is it? I was driving my 2002 grand am today and saw a small puff of smoke also. My husband thought that I was seeing things. We have also been experiencing the "clicking" noise. I have spoken to Pontiac at (800)762-2737 and believe that this may be covered under the bulletin# 04098. They are still open now if you would like to call them. They have made arrangements for me to get my vehile serviced on Monday (6/1/09) at 8am. Hope this helps.

U get that car in for service and don't drive it until then, also disconnect the battery, there is a good chance of a fire starting in the steering column and burning the car up.

They will find the problem if they take it apart. Could be the airbag, horn, any controls on the steering column. It sounds like it may have some burnt wiring.

My 04 pontiac grand am started a fast clicking

Smoke coming from the steering column is definitely not a factory option. Likely you are developing a short inside that needs to be checked. Try to find what's making the noise as that may give you a good clue to which wires are involved in the problem. Smoking will cause the insulation on the bad wire to become soft and it will look different than the others. Obviously I'm not there,so I can't tell you which are involved, you need to take a good look or get it to a shop ASAP!!!

Steering wheel smoke?

If it has rancid acidic smell, it is wires burning. Please stop driving before the air bag blows up in your face. Bring to a shop to find it.
