    How can i disconnect the oil pressure gauge?

  • tortega81 May 27, 2009

    I had it checked and they replaced the oil sensor but it keeps doing it still. Will it affect the truck if i disconnect it for now?

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

    You can disconnect it by removing the wire from the oil pressure sending unit.

    Are you sure your oil pressure is not fluctuating?

No fuse for the switch on the engine although the cluster has a fuse for the instrument gauges

    I think you can live with the fluxuating gage. The cluster is made by Nippondenso and sold as exchanged units at any GM dealership. Disconnecting it is not an option for you for YOU can not disconnect it unless you know the circuitry of the cluster. The circuits are integrated with all other gages in the dash. More than likely you will purchase a used cluster at a wrecking yard than paying hundreds for a rebuilt one

When im driving or giving car gas oil pressure is good, if car stops moving and gets no gas oil pressure drops to zero? I drive a 2007 gmc envoy 4.2 liter. Any ideas everyone says just a bad motor.

Are you hearing a knocking coming from the engine if so yeah there may be a rod getting ready to go soon which would be an engine replacement. Have you checked the oil levels? It could also be an oil pump or oil pressure sensor. There are many things to consider and many things it could be.

96 Chevy blazer how do I get out of safe mode ran low on oil now runs an drives but won't let car go fast past 2000rpms

The computing system on your vehicle has no safe mode for running low on oil . The only thing that will happen is the check gauges light will come on.
The oil pressure gauge is an analog device that is located in the IPC. The oil pressure gauge is operated directly by the oil pressure sensor circuit. As the engine oil pressure changes, the resistance of the sensor and the current flow in the oil pressure gauge changes. The current flow in the oil pressure gauge causes the needle to move in order to appropriately display the engine oil pressure. A sensor resistance of 1ohms will display as 0 kPa (0 PSI) and a resistance of 88 ohms will display as 80 kPa (80 PSI ). The IPC also monitors the oil pressure sensor circuit and interprets the current flow in this circuit in order to determine when the engine oil pressure is too low. If the oil pressure is too low, the check gauges tell tale will turn on. The oil pressure sender is located on the left side of the 2.2L. The 4.3L engine, oil pressure sender is located at the top left side, near the distributor/high voltage switch.
Try disconnecting the battery cables an hold them together for ten minutes , reset ECM !

I have a 1998 VW Beetle and Im trying to locate the alarm/buzzer that comes on with the oil light. I need to unhook it. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY! HELP!!!

First thing, check your oil pressure. Even if you check the oil level, if the oil pump is going bad then the oil pressure isn't high enough to keep the engine lubricated- that's probably why you hear the alarm. You'll end up needing to rebuild the engine if you drive too much without the proper oil pressure. If you're really sure you want to disable the alarm you'll need to remove the dash to get to the buzzer and disconnect the wires. You can also experiment with removing the fuse for the instrument cluster, but you'll lose all your dash lights too. Good luck.

No oil pressure, camshaft position sensor error,

Yes, the sensor is in small housing the goes in the hole where the distributor used to go. That also drives the oil pump so don't drive it you'll ruin the engine. It's located down under the throttle body, near transmission end of the engine.

Oil light comes on while at an stop sign and traffic light

Check the oil level, if the oi level is good. Then it's a good chance that the oil pressure sensor may have gone bad and needs to be replaced as long as there is no damaging noise coming from the engine.

It is very hard to try to reach the sensor from under the car. Removed the battery, air box, also moved the fuse box aside just a bit to get more room to work (not necessary though if you have long arms). After removing/moving those parts you'll have plenty of room to work with. Simply disconnect the electric connection and remove the sensor with a socket. The part is $11.99 at Auto Zone with a lifetime warranty! (not just a dealer only item :]) The socket isn't a special socket its just a 27mm deep well. I hope this helps someone, overall the job isn't hard so no need to pay anyone to do it for you! Good luck, the oil pressure sending unit located high on the back of the engine block.

Oil pressure guage went nuts

Check the sending unit wire for grounding, You may have a bad sender as well. If the problem persists, put a mechanical gauge on it and check actual pressure...that will tell you if you need to go inside the engine to fix it. Usually you will find the problem in the sensor.

2001 Jimmy shut down while driving. The ECM1 fuse blew. Replaced fuse and it blew. disconected circuits related to ECM1 fuse. reconected one circuit at a time. Fuse did not blow and Jimmy started. Why?

The first thing you should do is to locate the oil pressure switch/sending unit.

It's a single wire terminal with plastic connect sensor from the engine block.

This switch serves two functions.

1) provide oil pressure reading

2) disable the fuel pump relay in event of oil pressure loss.

===

When this switch is failing to provide the correct pressure to the ECU. The wiring harness can overheat and eventually create a short.

ECM1 fuse blow is because the harness is grounding/shorting.

===

DO NOT drive the truck until you change the oil pressure switch.

After you change the switch,you should spend sometime to inspect the wiring between the fuel pump relay,ECU and fuel pump.

Please post up day on the comment window/page.

I will follow up on it later.

Good luck.
