The amount of fuel supplied to the engine is determined by the amount of time the fuel injector stays open. This is called the pulse width, and it is controlled by the ECU. and i order to get the right amount of fuel the ECU controls the sensors to spray at the right time

Check the fuel pressure. it should be 40 psi or greater. If low, find and correct the cause. Could be the fuel pump, flexible line in tank connecting fuel pump to steel, or clogged fuel filter. Also make sure there's not water in the fuel.

Car cranks but wont start

IF the motor is cranking, is it getting any fuel? When you turn your key on, do you hear the fuel pump kick on? Most cars today are fuel injected, and use an electric fuel pump. With another partner, have them stick their ear on the gas tank as you are turning the car on. You should hear some kind of pump, if not, your fuel pump may be dead.

So my fuel pump has been making a high pitched noise for a while. Then one day, without warning, I tried to start the car but it wouldn't. It cranked but would not start. I turned the car on (not start)...

I looked at info for 3.1L vinM Buick regal. fuel pressure key on engine off, 40.5--47 psi. Can you check the vin? The fuel pressure specs I have for 3.8L engine are even higher than the 3.1L.
You will get a fuel pump prime, key on engine off. You need to make sure fuel pump runs with engine cranking.
My hearing is no good, I can't hear fuel pump with engine cranking.
Sometimes If fuel pump brushes are bad, the fuel pump may run intermittently. Sometimes you can bang on bottom of gas tank when trying to start and the fuel pump will take off running.

Yes, they can. With no warning whatsoever, in some cases. Do you not hear it turn on for a couple seconds with key on? Try some starting fluid sprayed into the engine, then crank it. If it fires up and runs a few seconds, you know it is a gas problem.
The definitive test for a bad pump is to check for power on the pump wire at the gas tank connector, when the engine is cranking over. If power there and no pump, the pump is bad. If no power getting to the pump when cranking, the pump circuit needs checked-check the fuel pump fuse, there is also a fuel pump relay under the hood.

Your fuel pump my still be pumping fuel But it my not be pumping with enough force to get it through the carb. I would try replacing the fuel pump.

My car wont start and i suspect is my fuel pump

Check cranking fuel pump pressure. If no (or very low) reading, you might try replacing the fuel filter. Try running the cranking fuel pump pressure check again. If the readings are unchanged from the initial test, then you may, in fact, have a failed fuel pump.

Wont start

The fuel pump jump started? The fuel pump relay is in the dashboard relay center. The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. The pumps do fail entirely nd the fuel pump should make some sound if it's running. The fuel filter is on the firewall on the drivers side. It has a bleeder screw in the top of the bnjo bolt that holds the fuel line onto the filter. Loosening this bolt should release fuel pressure. With the bolt loose try to get the pump running ( knock on the relay, fuel tank, while cranking the engine) if fuel flows the engine should run if you don't have other problems. Low battery will crank the engine but not turn on the fuel pump and or the injection system and even the ingtion system. It may still crank and sound OK. Voltmeter the battery with the engine cranking, Less that 10 volts it's unlikly to start. John
