2000 Hyundai Sonata

My car won't start. I tested the battery by checking if wipers go on when i put key in the ignition. I also try jump start. When I try to start key, my lights go on and everything in car including clock. Then i hear one crank but car won't start and lights dim and clock goes out. After a bit i try to go back to start again lights are on and clock. Is this the alternator?

Well this sounds like you have a low battery.Take the battery out and have it charged then try starting your car.If your car turns on with a multimeter you can check that your car is putting out 13 volts. If you put the battery on and you hear like a dragging noise in your starter you might have a sterter that is going out,Good luck

Check in your fuse box for the main fuse 80 amps which is for the engine. If is not blown go for the ignition switch itself.

Turn on ignition everything works but want start

sounds like a starter. if possible without getting hurt maimed or mutilated, try tapping on the starter (best done with a rod standing beside the car) while someone holds the key in the start position. if car starts (works about 50% of the time) it's the starter. otherwise, if all lites come on, radio works, etc but nothing when you turn the key, replace the starter

Lights come on. I hear one crank but car won't start

Will the wipers work with the key in the run position? If not, it's the battery. Try a jump start. If the battery's ok you need to measure volts and amps at the starter to check for clean connections and internal failures.

Hyundai Tiburon Won't Start

Possibly the alarm cut-off switch? or Ignition key switch (or wires) going bad?

But you mentioned you tried to jump start it and it did turn over?
IF so, you could have severe corrosion or loose connections of the battery cable both at the battery and at the termination points, such as ground and starter motor.
Check that the battery wires are tight and clean at the battery posts and at the other end.

Again the No lights suggests either the alarm cut-off, or an absolute disconnected battery cable.

Finally, it could be ignition fuse, Check fuses. Ignition key switch.

What makes this hard is that you suggest it would turn over with another battery connected. This makes no sense.

Good luck
