Engine has intermittent miss

1998 4.0 sohc had a miss a couple of months ago. replaces plugs and wire with new, miss was corrected. about a week ago engine started to miss when started but would straighten out after ran for awhile, but now engine missesall the time except when under hard load. I checked plugs and wires and all are good. checked fire from coil and found blue to white fire. could this be a cam sensor possibly.

is your ignition system distributor or coil pack? It might be a bad ignition coil pack. The voltage gets low and causes a misfire. Pull a wire off the pluds one at a time and check spark coming out. If it looks weak chances are its the coil pack.

Hi, my first recommendation would be to take the plugs out and visually inspect each one and check to make sure they are properly gapped, if they look fouled at all i would replace them without hesitation. try throwing a set of NGK plugs in the car to fix the misfires. other than that you may want to look at the wires. good luck joe

Wont turn over

The starter is most likely the problem, tap on the starter lightly with a hammer while trying to start the engine, dont get run over doing this it will take two people,if the engine starts, the starter needs replacing.

there may be a software update for the powertrain control module for mis-fire monitor. check with your local dealer. but if thats not the case, these engines are known at least in my experience of having the heads crack between the valves and cause mild mis-fires. try compression testing all the cylinders and performing a leakdown test on them as well.
