Question about 1992 Mercury Sable

My power windows quit working. no fuses or breakers were tripped.

What else could possibly cause them to quit working? the funny thing is my power locks and windows are supposed to be on the same circuit but the locks still work with the circuit breaker pulled out.

Can not locate fuse for power windows in fuse box


Interior fuse box. It is a circuit breaker, not a fuse, #28, according to your owners manual. Not only check the circuit breaker, use a test lite and check for voltage on circuit breaker circuits. Sometimes, if faulty window motor, it may cause the circuit breaker to trip. I've seen some circuit breakers that were hot to the touch. After it cools off, it may reset?

Power windows & blower motor quit working same time / 1991 dodge ram d150


Check the power window circuit breaker. Does it get hot to the touch? If so, it may trip till it cools off. Check for voltage at circuit breaker, probably goes hot with the key on. It gets voltage from ignition switch. Just to add, the fuse for the blower motor also gets ignition feed, goes hot with the key on. Whether everything is related, I don't know?

Probably not a fuse, but, a circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker gets hot it may trip. If it trips none of the windows will work. You can also check for voltage at the circuit breaker. I have felt of circuit breakers that were hot to the touch, that particular vehicle had a bad window motor. My info for your model year isn't the best.

All my power windows quit working right after a rainstorm


Start by checking any fuses, and or reset-able breakers. Its most likely that a fused had got wet and when you started your vehicle it blew out a fuse. The only other thing it could possibly be is that the drivers main door panel switch has loosened up and or got wet.

Driver's power seat does not work


Are you also having other things that do not have power, such as the radio or power mirrors, or the wireless door locks / security system? I owned a 1996 Oldsmobile product that had the same problem. I discovered that a circuit breaker in the fuse box was being overloaded. The same circuit breaker that operated the seats also operated the wireless remote. Apparently, the wireless remote receiver was getting "hung" and constantly drawing electricity and tripped the breaker. When the breaker tripped, my seats also quit working. Thus I quit using the wireless remote and the seats have worked fine ever since.

It sounds like you have an over-current problem with your seat controls that may be causing the self-resetting circuit breaker to trip. It may also just be a weak circuit breaker. These tend to get weak and trip easilly if they are tripped several times. It is possible that your problem before replacing the seat module caused this. It is also possible that the seat motors or heating elements have a present problem that are causing this. If so, this might be the cause of your module going bad in the first place. The right way to diagnose this would be to scan your Body Control Module for fault codes and to see if there is any information/data that can lead to to an effective repair.

You could also try replacing the circuit breaker first to see if this fixes the problem. It is the "Seats" Circuit Breaker in the Instrument Panel Fuse Block. it is a 30-Amp, self-resetting breaker.

The only problem with doing it this way, is that if this problem is in fact what caused your seat module failure, simply replacing the circuit breaker may cause a second module failure.

There could be a timed circuit breaker:

Circuit Breakers The headlights are protected by a circuit breaker in the headlamp switch. If the circuit breaker trips, the headlights will either flash on and off, or stay off altogether. The circuit breaker rests automatically after the overload is removed. The windshield wipers are also protected by a circuit breaker. If the motor overheats, the circuit breaker will trip, remaining off until the motor cools or the overload is removed. One common cause of overheating is operation of the wipers in heavy snow. The circuit breakers for the power door locks and power windows are located in the fuse box.

You're accumulating problems over time.They're not related.

The heat/air blower fan problem is a bad blower (variable) resistor n the blower fan control.

The power windows are either fuses blown or regulator motors dead - check your power accessory fuses and go from there to check the regulator motors - try junk yard(s) before paying for as new window regulator.

The intermittent feature of the wipers - check/replace the switch that controls this feature (the most likely cause).

THe problem with ALL your dashboard electrical items failing at once, then coming back to life after a restart is a 12V breaker (not a fuse) in your fuse panel - it looks like a relay, but your maintenance manual (Haynes Manuals - $20 everywhere) will identify it as a breaker - its sticking in the "off" state and needs to be replaced, OR I SUSPECT THAT: moisture gets into the car somewhere and causes the breaker to TRIP to prevent the resultant short from burning up your mini-van in a brightly-lit vehicle fire, and when you turn the van on, the breaker is tripped - you restart the vehicle,(which turns out to be the proper procedure to reset a 12V breaker), and the breaker resets, and you drive off with working dashboard controls.

Power windows stopped working


If ALL the windows quit working, then it's either a bad circuit breaker or a short circuit. There are two fuse/relay/breaker panels: under the hood and under the back seat cushion. The power window circuit breaker is under the back seat cushion, near the battery. Remove the back seat completely, then remove the fuse panel top and inner cover. The fuse diagram is inside the top cover. Circuit breaker # 57 is the one. Pull it out. Use your voltmeter/multi-tester to check for continuity through the breaker. If there's no continuity, the breaker is bad and needs to be replaced. If it's good, then you have a dead short somewhere that causes the self-resetting breaker to uncouple when you attempt to operate a window. If so, the short will need to be traced down and repaired. Good luck.
