Only the part that prevents you from removing the rotor needs to be removed. On the inboard side of this piece there are two bolts-one on top, one on bottom. Remove them and the part that is in the way will come off. Then the rotor is free. Those two bolts can be tough to remove if you are lying on the ground (no leverage). If they won't come off you will need to heat them to cherry red with acetylene or MAPP gas first. Propane will not get them hot enough. Don't burn the brake hoses or gas lines!

I have a 83 Bronco 351w I am doing the brakes and the passenger side rotor needs to be replaced can someone walk me through this thanks


Personally I would replace both rotors to prevent a future brake imbalance.

* chock rear wheels, raise front of vehicle and place on stands.

* remove wheels, remove brake calliper and bracket assemblies.

* remove bearing hubs from axles, via removal of bearing adjustment nut

*remove hub seals, clean and inspect bearings, repack with HT bearing grease.

* the brake rotor bolts to the rear of the hub, you will have to remove and replace rotor to hubs, make sure all bolts are thread locked with loctite 263 and tensioned to spec.

* pack hub with grease, install seals, fitt hub assembly and adjust wheel bearing preload, install new split pins.

* fitt brake calliper and brackets, fit new brake pads,

* fitt wheels lower vehicle, test brake for function

TO DO WHAT? not even the smallest hint on job or failure.>?

hubs, the rears have hubs to with disc brake option.rotor hubs.
I guess front hubs?.
guess 2, wheel bearing hubs, and not 4wd axle locking hub units.

ill guess? wheel bearings are bad? (just in hub not spindle bearings bad... no matter this is first.)
so you do what. ? here are the steps.

that part"B" must be off first, see the bolts holding it, ?
B = auto locking hubs. or hub axle lockers.

  1. "Place the Transfer shift in the 2H position.
  2. Raise and support the front of the vehicle safely on jackstands. (rear tires chocked, and hand brake set hard)
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4. Loosen the hub to rotor retainer bolts.
  5. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts and carefully remove the caliper (along with the brake pads) from the rotor. Do not disconnect the brake line. Secure the caliper out of the way with the flexible line still connected.
  6. Remove the hub nut using hub wrench J-29020-A or equivalent. ( special tool)
  7. Remove the hub cap assembly retainer bolts. Remove the spindle nut, washers, and other components. Remove the hub/rotor, being careful not to drop the outer wheel bearings. As the hub/rotor is pulled forward, the outer wheel bearings will often fall forward.
  8. Once the hub/rotor is removed, remove the retainer bolts securing the rotor and hub together. Inspect the hub and replace if needed."

WHy dose my brake pedal push back and make a grinding noise


Look through the openings in your front wheels and look at the front rotors-are they gouged up? You are probably running metal-to-metal, pads to rotors.
Chances are real good your rotors will have to be replaced along with new pads, but if you catch it early enough you might be able to have them machined, although nowadays that is hardly easy to get done and the savings usually is not as significant as it once was.

How to change brake rotors on a 2000 Chev Astro


Unfortunately the rotors on the astro have an integrated hub, so you have to pull the whole thing, the just is just like changing wheel bearings.

Remove the wheel, remove the caliper, remove the dust cap, cotter pin and then remove the axel nut. Be sure to install new grease seals.

This is a good time to replace the wheel bearings, if you don't you should knock the old raced out of the old rotors and install in the new rotors with your old bearings.

Grinding noise passenger side front


Check wheel bearing.
Check backing brake plate , sometimes it's bended and touching brake rotor.
If wheel bearing is bad , you may have same effect with backing plate , brake rotor touch backing plate.

check the master cylinder for dirt you could have a foreign matieral in the brake line causing a clog i would also check to see if the abs pump isnt turning on by itself when your driving

Removing front rotor


When you take off the wheel, you then need to take off the caliper witch is held on by 2 bolts, (may require a special socket) after removing caliper carefully let it hang by brake line. Then the rotor should slide right off.

I have what looks like brake dust on both front tires and have recently started getting a lot of road noise. Any ideas what this could be?


when you have excessive brake dust and wheel noise it is an indicator of the brakes not releasing from the rotor. usually due to the caliperts not sliding on the guide pins. this is an easy fix just remove the calipers and lube the guide pins with an anti seize and the problem will be solved. if this problem has gone on for a while it would be a good idea to replace the rotors and pads because chances are that the rotors are more than likely warped

REAR WHEEL BEARING/ HUB

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting in General Diagnosis.
  2. Remove the wheel and the tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
    1. Remove and support the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear) in Brakes.
    2. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
    3. Remove the ABS sensor wire connector.
    4. Remove the four bolts from the control arm.
    5. Remove the hub and bearing from the control arm.
    6. Remove the brake shield from the control arm.
    7. Clean the control arm face and the bore before installing the hub and the bearing.
    Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
    1. Install the brake shield and the hub and the bearing to the control arm with the four bolts. Be careful not to drop the hub and the bearing, as it could be damaged. Reconnect the ABS sensor. Tighten the hub and bearing bolts to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).
    2. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
    3. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear) in Disc Brakes.
    4. Install the wheel and the tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment. Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
    5. Lower the vehicle.
