First I would check your sway bar links in the rear to make sure they are not broken. If the suspension is stiff it is probably your ads accumulaters( I believe it was standard on the 500 model). Also check your fluid level to make sure you have proper fluid in the reservoir in the engine compartment and that your pump is working properly( it is a tandem pump which is also your power steering pump. There is also an adjustment on the sway bar that is adjusted by moving the arm that attaches the valve to the sway bar on the right side of the rear sway bar.

Loud Thumping noise while driving but not bad tires

could be lots of things. why not get live help.

we are blind here and can\'t hear, it feel it or touch it.

we use an electronic stethoscope to find all noises hard to find

or dangerous to find, by other means.

if it only makes noise, moving that be, dangerous.

i guess you never jacked up a wheel and spun it by hand?

or grabbed it by hand 3 and 9pm and felt the play>

this is 1 test if many testd. to find noise, all inspections.

bad bearings do as they want, ! sound wise.

bearings that have play are a good sign of bad. we check that first.

and there are like 10 levels of bad. there. so.? and 10 noises....

no mileage on car stated? 50k or 200k?

or if you ever get it serviced, do you?

finding noise causes is an art

even the FSM has noise page for cars. many do.

there are 3000 parts on the car, any can make noise moving.

finding it takes skill and tools and PPE and safety precautions.

i\'d take this car to a suspension and brake shop

not just a brake shop,,

they will find this easy.. I promise.

if not post.

lets see.

  • brake issues

  • suspension issues or damage

  • U-joints or CV if applicable.

  • wheel bearing noise.

  • tire noise.

  • Loose parts anywhere on car and making noise from normal driveline vibrations... (sympathetic vibs)

  • tranny noise.

  • transfer case noise.

  • loose exhaust parts.

  • axle noise. or axle gear noise or LSD noises. or?

the first step is to find the exact location

and the stethoscope, rules this world. 100x.

hope that helps.

Hello. I hear a very loud thumping noise from the back of my 2014 Toyota Corolla as I slow down. I have taken it twice to the service station at the dealer and they hear the noise but cannot identify where...

Here are the only reason that can cause a thumping noise
  1. Wheel and Tire Problems
    • Wheels can become bent from striking objects, and tires can develop bulges from broken belts or wear. Both problems may cause a thumping noise. Thumping sounds caused by wheel and tire problems will typically increase in frequency at higher speeds, though the sound may not be heard at lower speeds. These problems can often be spotted by visual inspection.
    Suspension Problems
    • Worn or broken struts or strut mounts can create a thumping noise, especially when the vehicle hits a bump in the roadway. To test struts, bounce the rear of the car by forcefully pushing down on it and letting go. After letting go, the car should settle back to its original position without bouncing or noise.
    Loose Trim
    • Loose trim pieces near or in the wheel well can flutter in the wind while a car is being driven. These trim pieces may create a thumping noise as they strike other objects. A car owner can check trim pieces for looseness to determine if that is the source of the noise.
Hope this helps

Loud popping noise when turning or hit bump/ pot hole

look at the rubber grommets and end rubber on the stabilizer bar .. also check the top of the strut tower (under hood). they sometimes rust out allowing some free motion and eventually complete failure .. look for even slight motion there when the car is rocked ..

After 20 miles rear brakes tighten up and makes thumping noise

It is probably the flexible rubber brake line that runs from the axle to the metal brake line on the frame. When these become old they don't allow the brake fluid pressure to reduce when the brake is released.
