I need help finding where the thermostat goes

I started running hot but not leaking fluid. the peice that runs from the radiator to the overflow shot off. I put that back and am trying to replace the thermostat first. The belt is under 30k miles and I don't think it is the water pump. The fan is working so this seems to be the logical first step but i just don't know where it goes

Hi Ashley, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles MO. I look forward to helping you with your problem.

Ashley, every once in a great while we technicians run across an engine where you can put the thermostat in backward, most engine's you can't install it backwards but some you can.

This is a good place to start. Check the thermostat and make sure the spring side is going into the engine block, this is the correct way to install it. If the spring side of the thermostat is pointing inside the thermostat housing then turn it over so it's pointing inside the engine block. If after checking this out and you need further help go to my website. Click here: Auto Repair

What is wrong with a saturn sl1 indicator says it is hot after running for 5 minutes

John sounds like your sensor may be bad. Next it could be your thermostat sticking use a temp gun and measure the temp of your radiator at the cap. Do not remove cap. Just take temp. If it is getting hot it should spit water out. Check to see if the electric fan is coming on the sensor to cut the fan on maybe bad or the fan. Hope this helps.

Over heating and blowing cold air from heater

Possibly leaking head gasket. Easiest way to check would be to fill radiator full, start engine and watch coolant level in the radiator cap opening. The top radiator hose will become hot when thermostat begins to allow coolant flow through the radiator. You may have to top off the coolant. Still with the radiator cap off watch for water belching out of the radiator neck. If coolant does belch out of the radiator cap neck, refill with water. If it belches out coolant again it would be combustion gassed forcing the coolant out of the radiator.

This process should take about 1/2 hour to diagnose if it is a head gasket leaking combustion gasses into the coolant.

The radiator fan may run once car is shut off to cool engine compartment to prevent gasoline in fuel lines from vaporizing which would cause a condition called "vapor lock". A car won't start if fuel lines are vapor locked.

Good luck, I hope this helps you to figure out the problem.

My 2000 chrysler voyager radiator fluid bubbles in radiator overflow tank evn when cold nd when turning over. I just had head gasket replaced whats going on

I suspect a crack in the head or block. The cooling system is suppose to be closed so any air has to be coming from somewhere - if the head gasket is good then the air is likely to be coming from a crack. A pressure test will confirm if your system is not air tight. That is if you are seeing bubbles in the radiator water if you just mean you are losing water through the overflow then it might just be the radiator cap needs replacing as it is not sealing the system when it gets hot.

you should get a head gasket test done on the car as it will detect if there is any combustions chamber gas in the coolant.also check to make sure the cooling fan is operating properly as if its not can cause an overheating condition.

Cant find thermostat on 1994 toyota camry

its on the driver sidde of the engine. You will see the radiator hose running to the thermostat housing. You must remove the radiator hose and thermostat housing to see it. also make sure your radiator caps seals aren't leaking, especially the one on the top passenger side of the engine!!

Radiator fluid spewed everywhere.

a stuck closed thermostat may have caused the engine to super heat on shut down, the radiator fluid came from the surge tank as it boiled over..
