Question about 2000 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

Coil light not coming coming on when suppose to

Please help me. I have a 2000 VW Golf TDI which I love but recently the coil light has been appearing on the dash whilst driving, causing the car to lose power for a second or two. Some time the car even cuts out altogether due to this or the battery light would appear on the dash. Just today it sut out altogether with the oil and battery light appearing and when it started there was no accerlation. I had the fuel filter changed about 3 months which fixed the problem then but its started reappearing now and im very concerned about it-especially as I travel a lot on busy roads Not quite the same problem but similar enough. In my case I have difficulty getting the coil light to come on and heat the plugs when starting a cold engine. It may take up to 10 mins of turning the key over and over before the coil light decides to come on. Getting the car test done next week and am scared it will result in a fail.

is the fan working? Do you see any leaks anywhere? Look into thermastat, water pump, radiator, and hoses, for leaks or if working properly. See if your fan is coming on when it is supposed to. With that you should have an idea of what you need to do.

I think i would be inclined to look at the coil pack ,and the wiring for this where it comes from the ECU ,i have never come across this before but its possible if the ECU isnt passing the correct information to the coil pack to fire in the right order ,what about the crank position sensor wiring are they shorting somewhere ?' Have a good look at the wiring and if necessary take the black outer sheafing off to inspect the wires inside

Coil light and loss of power

The battery grounding ******** vw's periodically go bad and need replacement, I would suspect this to be the case.
