Question about 2005 Ford Focus

1 Answer

My car cut off on me on a major highway several times with no lights indicating anything however each time it started up again. I took it in to have a diagnostic test done and was told they cleaned the idle air control valve and throttle plate and test drove it 3x. However after picking up my car about 4 hrs later the emission light came on . I took it back to the mechanic and he put it on a scanner which read too much air not enough gas and then the light went off. Now it's back on again and it's still stalling What can cause this, would a tune up fix this? and why is the PCV valve only available through the dealer. $22. is expensive compared to others who charge$10. Please help me

Why didn't tech follow through and find out why fuel air ratio was incorrect? Knowing the what does not tell you why! Two items come to mind, possibly a third...First, you may have a partially plugged fuel filter restricting fuel flow. Second you may have an EGR problem If it remains open, it can alter ratio. and possibly the throtle position sensor may be out of range, causing the computer to get incorrect info, in response, it may only be demanding the amount of fuel you are getting. (I don't think that is the problem, but it is a possibility id check if other items don't help.
With any control items, test carefully before replacing. This stuff is too expensive to just throw parts at it 'till the problem goes away. Fuel filter is maintenance and is no loss if it dosen't fix problem...Many egr valves can be cleaned and returned to service without buying a new one. Other components can usually be tested with a decent volt/ohmeter and a simple test procedure outlined in vehicle specific repair manuals available at larger parts stores. at about $20 for a manual it's cheaper than even one diagnostics mistake!
Dealer only parts happen when the manufacturer makes a change in design that is so vehicle specific that it does not pay for the aftermarket to manufacture that part due to low demand. (or, sometimes out of greed? but that's just my opinion) Most pcv valves can be cleaned out with carb cleaner though.

Your alternator may be overcharging & causing major electrical problems! If your battery is bubbling then it cant be good. Check the voltage output @ diferent RPMs. Also check for cut or shorted wires! Also check that the battery indicator bulb isnt burnt out

I have had similar problems, this could be either the MAF (mass airflow meter) or the crank sensor.

You need to get it scanned for codes to be sure though.

I had the same issue that has evolved into the car starting and idling for 2-3 seconds then stalling. After doing this five times it won't turn over at all. All the dash lights are on but no turn over. After the car sits for appoximately 15-30 minutes, it starts and runs fine for 3-4 weeks then does it again. I was told this is due to the camshaft and crank position sensors needing replaced.

Cuts off, but will restart, then cuts off again

Likely, you have a damaged engine bearing. When there is a problem there it will turn oil pressure light on because bearings keep the pressure inside the crankshaft...It may stop as the bearing overheats and binds, then loosens up a bit allowing a re-start when it gets cooler. Battery sounding dead is likely because the engine is locking up and too difficult for starter to turn.
At this point, it is not a do-it -yourself project ...either you need a lower end rebuild or engine replacement.

1987 CHEVY CORVETTE CUTS OFF SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING

Could be just about anything, but given that I had the same symptoms that turned out to the fuel pump, I would check that if you haven't already. Mine would run fine for a while, particularly when it was cold, and tested fine at the shop, but after a while under load, it turned out the pressure would suddenly drop to about 15 pounds. A real pain to diagnose, since when it was in the shop it wasn't under load, so it tested OK.

Sounds like the Ignition Control Module inside the distro. cap. It might run fine when cold, but once it gets hot it causes trouble. Take the control module an auto parts store and they should be able to test, like Autozone.

2004 Chrysler Crossfire- will not start

I had the same problem with my 2005 and I had it in and out of the dealership. After about 4 times of taking it in they found that it was a relay in the ignition system. I had problems with the car dieing as I was driving. I also had issues withe the car not starting after I got somewhere. When you try to start the car the lights and everything would come on but the engine would not turn over or make any noise at all. For me this was all under the factory warranty.
