Suzuki sidekick clutch problem

I have a 1991 suzuki sidekick with manual transmission. The clutch cable was just recently replaced. When I put the car into reverse, it works fine. When I shift into any other gear the engine will rev up but the car won't actually move, as if it's in neutral. help!

I don't think the shift cables have been touched. All I know for certain is that the clutch cable was replaced (not too sure if that's the same thing :S

Reverse gear is lower than other gears. (dosen't require a lot of torque to move car) Likely the clutch is worn and needs replacement.

was the shift cables taken off? this could be your problem if they were placed on the trans wrong.

Check the cable clearance. Too much clearance will cause clutch slippage or total clutch disengagement. Adjust the cable so that the clutch pedal will be hard to press by hand .5 to .75 inch from its initial point.

I have a 1993 suzuki sidekick 16v replaced the clutch cable as is was shredded have adjusted several times but it continues to get harder to depress the clutch pedal and change gears do i need to replace...

you did not say how long (time or miles) it took to damage the cable.
did you lube the cable, each time? replaced?
and yes, if the collar on the front of the trans, or the main spline
shaft to the transmissiion are galled, or the throwout bearing is bad
or worn at same points, it will bind.

if the pedal binds, with a new cable , the clutch is bad
10hrs labor for 4wd. (done many, )
can be less if you have top tools.
I find pulling the engine, faster. (tools)

did you use a non china clone cable?
or a good one.
i have friends that used the plastic clone cable, they are all junk.

try a real suzuki cable.
23710- 57B11 (obsolete at Suz says use B12)

or a BECK. 093-0623 (nut mount) 62"?
later cars have rubber mounted at end.
take care not to order wrong cable.

It wont crank over to start

Hi. well we have to start somewhere, turn on the lights, are they bright? checking battery condition.
Next, auto or manual?
auto, make sure shifter is in park. work it back and forth a couple times or try starting in the neutral position.

Manual trans? there should be a clutch safety switch. these are often located on the clutch pedal mounting mounting assembly.
Are the battery cables In good condition? terminals clean and tight?
did you try a jump start?
these are some things that might shed light on the problem.

Problems shifting

I would take it back to the mechanic, sounds like he might have just painted the old one. Hopefully they changed the throwout bearing too.
