Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan SE Dashboard functioning intermitently

Some days on , some off. Works sometimes when you whack it, most times not. Dies or comes alive some times when driving and you can hear the power door locks lock as the dash sends/receives the signal that the van is moving over 15 mph. Usually works more often when outside temp. is colder. Dash seems to lose power yet the odometer continues to record miles while not displaying. I believe its a corroded connection, bad wire or issue on a circuit board. Any help would be welcomed as it can't pass inspection and the van is clean for a '98. Thank you.

This condition has become very common with the 3rd generation 96-2000 Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyagers. The instrument cluster develops fractures in the solder connections at the connector on the instrument cluster circuit board. The instrument cluster circuit board needs to be removed and the connector resoldered. This condition can cause everything from loss of guages, random stalling and complete shutdown. Also there is occasionally a problem with the HVAC module connector that melts around pin #21 causing any number of problems including shorting the CCD data bus that can cause all sorts of symptoms by not allowing control modules to communicate with the PCM. A very common symptom of a problem with the Body Control Module is to have no intermittent wipers or other problems in the cabin of the vehicle.

The most common cause of the poblems u are having is the Body Contro Module (known as the BCM) is defective, it is all to common a complaint, I believe you must have the new module programmed so the dealer will have to get invovled.

For 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, instrument clusters with light when ignition turn on, but there's no crank and no start. Battery just changed five months ago

I have a similar problem. Do you also notice the gauges on the instrument panel going out from time to time? (Have to slap the dashboard.) I have been told the start problem is related to a problem with the instrument panel (a control unit contained therein). I have found at times turning the key to the ON position for a few seconds (odometer lights stabilize) before moving to the START position sometimes helps.

Unfortunately, replacing the instrument cluster/control unit can cost up to $600-700. I am not a mechanic, but have inquired about this for my own Caravan. Good luck.

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan will not shif into 2nd

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

Car: 2005 dodge caravan. Problem: Trying to start, all the dashboard lights will light-up, but the car will not start. Jumping does not change this behavior. Then today it started again.

If the solenoid clicks it could be worn contacts inside the solenoid. They feed current to the starting motor and when they get worn they sometimes will not make contact.

When you push the cruise control the light turns on on the dash but nothing happens what should i run test on 1998 dodge caravan se

I have the same problem on my 1998 Grand Caravan. Cruise control light comes on but it will not set. Have had the clock spring replaced (2 years ago) and BCM (6 months ago). Could be brake light switch on the brake pedal. Haven't been able to check it yet because of weather. Sounds easy to change and costs about $16.00. Will try to post if I get a new switch and it works.

The fan to the ac works intermitent, sometimes I start the engine and it works and other times it doesn't

that sounds like it might be the blower motor resistor. it is what controls the fan speeds. sometimes they cut in and out like that.
