Question about 1985 Chevrolet Chevy

1 Answer

Engine just quits while driving.

Our 1997 Chevy 2500 Silvarado, 5.7L. just quits running, while you drive it. we must sit on the side of the road for about 20 minutes, then spray eithter in the air intake, and after some really rough noises, it finally starts. This only happens when its really warm outside, and after we have driven it about 30-45 minutes straight, without turning it off. My husband thinks it is a camshaft sensor

Check fuel pump...when beginning to fail, they tend to lock up till they cool down.

Check it again...not doing so can have you chasing your tail. New parts are good only when they work...spraying starting fluid (though either isn't recommended anymore) tells me that you were not getting fuel. Only one reason for that.

2007 chevy 2500 died while driving down the road. Lights/radio still work

The battery light was on because the engine stopped running. The alternator was not charging the battery.
On a model that new, if the engine did overheat the computer could kill it. A stuck thermostat comes to mind. But your temp gauge should have been on the hot side.
Its also possible something locked up and is preventing the engine from cranking, such as the water pump or alternator. You may need to remove the belt to verify. If the belt is slipping it would not power the water pump to keep the engine cool.

How about advise on a 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hd "alternator / drive belt replacement"

The instructions are below. Also, there will be a diagram for the routing.
  1. Before you begin, visually confirm the belt routing to the engine compartment label (if present) or to the appropriate diagram in this section (if the label is not present). If you cannot make a match (perhaps it is not the original motor for this vehicle), scribble your own diagram before proceeding.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
  3. Install the appropriate sized breaker bar, wrench, or socket to the tensioner arm or pulley, as applicable.
  4. Rotate the tensioner to the left (counterclockwise) and slip the belt from the tensioner pulley.
  5. Once the belt is free from the tensioner, CAREFULLY rotate the tensioner back into position. DO NOT allow the tensioner to suddenly snap into place or damage could occur to the assembly.
  6. Slip the belt from the remaining pulleys (this can get difficult is there is little room between the radiator/fan assembly and the accessory pulleys. Work slowly and be patient.
  7. Once the belt is free, remove it from the engine compartment.
To install:
  1. Route the belt over all the pulleys except the water pump and/or the tensioner. Refer to the routing illustration that you identified as a match before beginning.
  2. Rotate the tensioner pulley to the left (counterclockwise) and hold it while you finish slipping the belt into position. Slowly allow the tensioner into contact with the belt.
  3. Check to see if the correct V-groove tracking is around each pulley.

Engine Performance problem 1997 Chevy S-10 4

According to my book, the first code is the brake control rough road sensor, and P0302 is a cyllinder #2 misfire. Check the gap on your plug, and make sure the plug wire is on all the way. Give the boot an extra good push. Backfiring or misfiring under load is always caused by poor ignition. You may also have a faulty plug or wire.

Pull the engine coolant temp sensor, I know it sounds funny but do it if your looking at the engine it is located on the right side of the head.. chances are the ceramic tip on the sensor is cracked.. 15 dollar fix or so should take away from the high idle.. let me know how it works
