Question about 2002 Buick Century

TEMPERATURE TO HIGH

THE TEMPERATURE IS TO HIGH AND I THINK THAT THE RADIADOR FAN IS NOT WORKING PROPERTLY, COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY ISSUE?

I would start with the cooling fan relay. There are two of them. One is for the A/C, and the other is just FAN. I would swap these relays around as they are the same part #. If the fan starts working there is the problem. Do not run your A/C while like this as the other cooling fan will not turn on, and the engine will get hot again.

there are 2 fuses for the fan
also check the coolant temperature SENSOR ( not sender ) as that is what reports temperature to the ECM to get the fan turned on through a relay

In general, vehicles with electric radiator fans use an electronic temperature control so the fans only run as fast as needed. The energy to drive the fans come from the fuel you burn, so this is supposed to improve fuel economy. The air conditioner load makes the engine run hotter, so the fans should come on then.

Now, here is the real question: is the engine overheating at traffic light stops? Do you see an abnormal temperature rise on the dashboard gauge (assuming you have one)? If so, you may have a problem with the fan motor bearing, check for smooth and easy rotation of the fan when the engine is cold (it's dangerous to do so when the engine hot; the fan may come on even with the engine turned off). On the other hand, if the temperature indication is generally lower than it used to be, the temperature sensor may be going bad and is not calling for the fan to be on when it should be.

Sensors do not always throw codes if they are close to normal parameters, needs to be checked with a scan tool and thermometer.

There is usually a high and a low speed fan relay, as well as a separate A/C fan relay (also high) Your High speed fan relay could be bad, or the fuse for it.

Engine idle surging usually means the coolant is boiling and there is no longer liquid in the throttlebody causing it to go to a high idle because it thinks the engine is cold. Warm coolant closes a valve lowering the idle on most Japanese makes of that year.

Also, sometimes Thermostats stick half open and do not allow enough flow. AND sometimes in neglected cooling systems Water pump Vains are eroded by electralosis causing low coolant flow as well. And a Clogged radiator can also cause this, as by the time the fans run on high it's to late.

A/C temperature is controlled by your thermostat, if that is not working, then just have it replaced

if FAN settings are not working properly, then have your RESISTOR BLOCK repaired/replaced.

My Car temprature goes up when I am stopped on Triffic Light. The AC stops working at that point too. AC starts working after I drive without stopping. The temperature goes down too. I checked the Radiator...

electrical radiator fans typically have 2 speeds a high and a low. you may be having an issue with the high speed of the fan, that is why when you are not moving the temperature goes up!

It is very important that the engine not overheat! The head can crack and this would be very bad.
I think your car is too new to need a new radiator.
Make sure the coolant level is correct.
Check the thermostat housing for leaks.
When the engine is hot, check if the fan clutch is locked up and actually driving the fan. Turn the engine off and grab the fan and try to turn it. It should turn stiffly. If it spins freely the fan clutch is dead.
It is possible that the water pump impeller has failed, especially if it is a plastic one.

YOU CANT BYPASS THE COOLANT FANS TO OPERATE FULL SPEED.IF YOU TRY YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE HEAD ACHES AND PCM TROUBLES.YOUR THREE COOLANT FAN SPEED IS CONTROL BY THE POWER MODULE IT ASSISTS THE COMPUTER SWITCHING FAN SPEEDS AND CLIMATE CONTROL FUNCTION.CHECK ALL 3 FANS RELAYS ONE OF THEM IS NOT WORKING.IT WILL CAUSE FAN SPEED PROBLEMS.DONT BYPASS OR OVERRIDE FANS.IF SO.YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE PCM AND CLIMATE CONTROL PROBLEMS.IF YOU HAVE ALREADY CHECK 3 FAN RELAYS.THEY ARE GOOD LET THE CADILLAC DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT.

Fifteen minutes! you have bigger problems than only the fans the fans are controlled by a thermo switch that is heated by the coolant, If you have no coolant the sensor cannot activate But fifteen minutes seems like you may have a headgasket problem and steam cannot heat the coolant sensor.OperationNotesThe electric cooling fan operates when the engine cooling temperature exceeds a certain value. The cooling fan on this engine is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . The PCM turns the cooling fan ON by grounding the coil of the cooling fan relays when certain conditions are met. When the A/C is requested, the cooling fan will also be turned ON.

Power for the cooling fan motors are supplied through Maxifuses(R). The cooling fan relays are energized when current flows from the fuses in the Underhood Accessory Wiring Junction Block, and through the relay coils to ground through the PCM. The Coolant Fan 1 Relay Control Circuit is grounded for low speed fans operation. During low speed fans operation, both fans run at a slow speed. The Coolant Fan 1 Relay Control Circuit is grounded for high speed operation. During high speed fans operation, both fans run at high speed.

IMPORTANT: When certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present, the PCM may command the cooling fans to run all the time. Perform the A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check prior to diagnosing the engine cooling fans.

For more information regarding the Charging System, refer to Charging System Description , and Charging System Circuit Description in Starting and Charging.

If a problem that involves the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit exists, DTC P0480 Cooling Fan Relay 1 Control Circuit should set. If the problem affects the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit, DTC P0481 Cooling Fan Relay 2 Control Circuit should set. A problem with the ECT sensor should set DTC P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage, DTC P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage, DTC P1114 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage, DTC P1115 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent High Voltage. Any of these DTCs will affect cooling fan operation and should be diagnosed before using the Electric Cooling Fan Diagnosis.
