97 mercury villager van lost power and oil light came on

I have a 97 mercury villager with 135,000 miles on it. it has always ran good but on a trip to wv the oil light came on and i lost power and it started ticking like a time bomb. I pulled over, checked the oil which was fine and i cant believe i done this but i drove it about 50 miles an hour to my destination another 30 miles away. i left it at my friends house because he thinks i need a new motor, I have since bought another vehicle but i would like some advice on what to do with my van, I wanted to keep it for my son who is old enough to drive now. my friend was trying to sell it for me but no luck so far. any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

ok, well, the van didnt freeze up on me which was surprising after i drove it another 30 miles but my friend said it was probably one of three things and all of them meant the motor was shot. is it worth it to put a new motor in , or should i just scrap it? the van is in good shape otherwise with very little rust and has always ran good, think the only thing i ever had done to it was tie rods and ball joints and a fuel injector put in it. thanks alot for your help

to put a used motor in that thing will cost you between 2-$3000.00. at most the van is worth 3-$4000.00 i would not wast the money

When i got in my 97 mercury villager to start, i turned the ignition everything went black, there is power in the batterie

There should be a master link in the wiring from the battery. These wires are like fuses and melt to prevent further damage. You have a problem somewhere if this broke.

Changing a Timing Belt

at 150,000 miles pretty much everything could be worn out if it is all original, if the van is in really good shape no dents or bad dings paint good, interior is in really good shape and the van has been serviced on a regular basis then yes fix it, also this is a free wheeling engine so if the timing belt breaks there is no damage to the engine, if it ran good with no excess oil useage or engine noise fix it..

1994 mercury villager has skip and engine service

Try disconnecting the battery for 2 hours. Then drive for 10 miles so the PCM can relearn. It may run rough for 10 miles.

Rear Air & Heat does not work on '97 Mercury Villager.

It's probably the cracked solder joint on the control assembly in the frony. I fix them all the time and sell them for $30 plus shipping. I always keep a spare repaired in my garage. villagers & Quests are noted for this. Don't know why you don't have lights on rear panel. I keep a spare one of those too, but it should have no affect on heater performance. Let me know if you are interested. You have to send yours back to me though.

If you are a techie, I will refer you to our Villager forum where there are files and photos on everthing about Villager & Quest issues.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/villagerquest/

see the circleed area where the bad solder joint is on the backside of the control head.
