Question about 1985 Ford F150

Battery Drain I have a 1985 f150 efi, we live in Florida and just had a huge rain storm. I went to start the truck and it was completley dead, I recharged the batttery and then it started, but the next day I had the same problem so by process of elimination I replaced the battery the alternator and the solenoid, with no luck please any ideas? Thank you

    scspriggs: The battery had a full charge, when I took the old alternator out and brought it to the auto store it tested good, but I put a new one in just to be safe. there is something drawing on the battery to kill it like that, but I have no idea what.

    I would suggest testing the charging system before we start the fault isolation process.



    Put a multimeter across the battery terminals with the engine running -- what reading do you get? If it's in the range of

    13 - 14.5 VDC, the charging system is working.

    Did you check the charge on the battery before you operated the new alternator?



    A new battery should be charged, but sometimes not. But maybe you ran the new battery before you installed the alternator?



    If the battery wasn't charged to 12.3-12.8 volts when the alternator was first run, the alternator could be damaged -- this is a classic problem and will destroy the alternator almost every time.

You have a short to ground or excessive current draw. measure this with Amp meter. pull fuses until amperage drops then look at what circuit is causing current draw to find fault

How do you open the hood. Pulled handle inside the cab and it opens the hood a little bit. Don't know what your meant to pull or press for it to open fully?

Had error message "gate". After opening and closing my rear gate,(2010 Jeep Liberty), interior lights went on. Made it to work. Tried to start car after work and the battery was dead.


scan it.
the CEL lamp on running means. "SCAN ME.," now.

the gate warning means just that, gate in ALarm.
and needs to be repaired.

I towed the car from Florida to phoenix az when we got here the car would not start. We went thru that snow storm in ok. the beginning of Feb. the battery is dead. is that the problem. we had it...


You can not jump a dead battery
That is also an unsafe practice

I'am in N.J. so I have no idea if your battery is dead

I do however have a 2004 LS

You should know how old the battery is,
as well as have it tested or replaced.

1985 Mustang 302 throtle body EFI. Engine won't start. No power to fuel pump,hot wire fuel pump and it starts.


check your fuse and relay for the fuel pump. back track power to ignition switch if problem persists

I have a Ford F150, I in drove in high water


i would drain the oil and change it and the oil filter, then i would replace the fuel filter and try to start it if still has an issue, while cranking check for spark, if you have spark and fuel vehicle should run , as far as the code look up trouble codes on google for automotive and it should help you out.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Depressurize the fuel system.
  3. Raise and support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.
  4. Disconnect the inlet and outlet fuel lines.
  5. Remove the pump from the mounting bracket.
  6. Install in reverse order, make sure the pump is indexed correctly in the mounting bracket Insulator

sounds like a bad wire connection of power some where check al you pos. and neg. connection under the hood!

Truck wont start


it will idle real high or possibly not at all you should be able to see if it is leaking by looking around the intake you could also spray alittle either around it while running and see if it itles high if so thats your problem

if engine won't crack - dead battery
if engine cranks but won't start - no fuel or spark
fuel reservoir is the fuel tank.
a fuel filter can be inside a housing...
